 Story:-
Rohit (Hritik Roshan) is working in an automobile showroom owned by rich entrepreneur Mr. Malik. He is an aspiring singer who lives with his aged aunt (Farida Jalal) and uncle (Satish Shah) and his younger brother Amit. One day he meets rich Sonia Saxena (Ameesha Patel) when he goes to deliver a car to her home as her birthday present. They see each other later that night when Sonia and her friends are having a party on the beach. After Rohit sings for her, Atul, Sonia's friend, invites him on a cruise to perform. There Sonia finds herself getting jealous over Rohit's popularity with her female friends. Sonia goes to sulk and drink in a lifeboat and Rohit follows. After they pass out on the life boat it detaches from the ship. When they awake they find themselves floating adrift in the ocean.
After landing on a nearby island many distractions cause them to forget about the boat and it drifts away. When they realize they are stuck, at first they argue. When Sonia jumps into the ocean and pretends to drown, Rohit jumps in after to save her. However, it is Rohit who needs saving, since he can't swim. When she asks why he jumped in after her, he confesses that he is in love with her. After enjoying time together on the island, they are saved by Mr. Saxena (Anupam Kher). He is bitterly opposed to their relationship. He asks Rohit's boss, Malik (Dalip Tahil) to fire him. However, later he softens up a bit and challenges Rohit to do something big so that he can win back his love. Determined to prove himself, Rohit and his friends attempt to procure a record deal for him. Rohit eventually becomes famous, and prepares to put on a huge concert.
On the evening of the show, Rohit goes to pick-up his younger brother Amit from school to take him up to show. He witnesses two corrupt policemen shooting down their senior officer (Ram Mohan) who has found out about their drug dealings. He also sees that the two policeman actually work for Malik, for whom he was working few days back. The policemen discover Rohit's presence and shoot at him. Rohit is chased by the policemen and falls into a river when his bike slips on a bridge. Sonia arrives on the scene and frantically shouts that Rohit doesn't know how to swim. A search party is sent down, but they don't find Rohit's body.
Sonia goes into depression so her father sends her to New Zealand to her cousin Neeta (Tanaaz Currim) to get over Rohit. When she reaches there she meets Raj Chopra (also Hrithik Roshan) in a club. He looks exactly like Rohit and is also a good singer. It turns out that Raj is a good friend of Sonia's cousin, and they end up meeting often. Raj soon falls in love with her, but she doesn't return his love because he reminds her too much of Rohit. When Raj doesn't understand, Sonia shows him pictures, and he is amazed at the likeness. Sonia goes back to India and Raj follows. On landing, however, he is shot at by one of Rohit's killers. Initially, Raj can't understand why he was attacked, but he later becomes suspicious that whoever attacked him has mistaken him for Rohit. He and Sonia manage to save themselves and hide in Rohit's old hideout. Here Raj expresses his love for Sonia.
Soon after, Raj and Sonia figure out Rohit was murdered. They also find out that Rohit's brother Amit is also a witness of Rohit's murder. They go to meet Rohit's family and an old friend, who scolds "Rohit" for acting as if he were dead, and many emotional moments follow as they are told the truth. When Amit meets Raj, he is convinced that Rohit has come back to him. Raj does not have the heart to tell him the truth, and adopts Amit as his own brother. Together, Sonia, Raj, and their friends make a plan to find Rohit's killers. They reschedule the concert which Rohit was to perform the night he was murdered, with Raj replacing Rohit. The plan backfires and the murderers kidnap Sonia, but Raj rescues her by killing two of them whereas Sonia's father Saxena reaches in time and kills the third one. Then and there, he figures out who Rohit's killers are and it turns out that the mastermind behind the drug conspiracy and Rohit's murder is Sonia's father, Mr. Saxena who finally confesses before Sonia that he had done all this. Sonia is heartbroken by this , but finally admits her love for Raj. In the end, Mr. Saxena is held by police and Raj and Sonia get engaged and Raj takes Amit with him to New Zealand.

When she does find him, to her horror she sees that he has joined a terrorist group. She forces him to come home, and he finally re-unites with their mother. However his allegiance and thoughts make him want to return to the terrorist network, led by Murad Khan (Manoj Bajpai). A confrontation with two men who harass Fiza leads to Aman revealing his involvement with the terrorist network in front of his sister, mother and the police. His mother's grief and disappointment eventually lead her to commit suicide.
Fiza tries once more to find her brother, with the help of Aniruddh (Bikram Saluja). Aman has been sent on a mission to kill two powerful politicians; when he does succeed in assassinating them, his own terrorist group tries to kill him. He escapes and Fiza follows him. They confront each other and with the police closing in on him, he asks her to kill him. As a last resort to give him an honorable end, Fiza kills her brother. Aman dies saying the first Kalma in Islam, lā ‘ilāha ‘illallāh muhammadur-rasūlullāh

  Reception

The film was critically acclaimed but did not do well at the box office. Critics praised the three lead performances. Karisma Kapoor in particular was applauded for her performance as a disillusioned sister.Vinayak Chakravorty from Hindustan Times gave the film 4 out of 5 stars, writing, "Fiza is more than just about Khalid Mohamed's foray into filmmaking. It is about Karisma Kapoor's proving a point as an actress of some substance. It is about Hrithik Roshan's establishing that he doesn't need maximum footage or glitz to impress. It is about the return after a hiatus of the ever — delightful Jaya Bachchan." Mimmy Jain of The Indian Express, in a positive review, wrote, "Fiza is the kind of movie that every critic prays will never come his way. For a critic's job, after all, is to criticise. And Fiza offers little scope for criticism." She further noted Karisma for delivering "a superbly flawless performance". Sanjeev Bariana of The Tribune labelled the film "only a little above average", but was highly appreciative of the performances.

Karisma Kapoor won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and Jaya Bachchan won the award in the Best Supporting Actress category, while Hrithik Roshan was nominated in the Best Actor category for his role. Both Kapoor and Bachchan also won the IIFA Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards respectively.

The movie was also the main winner at the BFJA Awards in the Hindi film section, taking the Best Director award for Khalid Mohammed, Best Actor for Roshan, Best Actress for Kapoor, and Best Supporting Actress for Bachchan.
In May 2010, Fiza was one of the films 14 Hindi movies selected by the Film Society of Lincoln Center to be screened as part of a section called "Muslim Cultures of Bombay Cinema" which aims to "celebrate and explore the rich influence of Muslim cultural and social traditions on the cinema of Bombay to the present".

 Synopsis:-
Inayat Khan (Sanjay Dutt) is the Senior Superintendent of Police responsible for the security of Srinagar, Kashmir. One day, his young son Irfaan (Yogin Soni) suffers an accident and is taken to a hospital. Unfortunately, due to a fatwa instigated by the leader of a terrorist group forbidding doctors to treat policemen, as one doctor named Aktar, his wife, and daughter fell victim to the terrorist group after treating Khan, the doctors refused to treat Irfaan. Khan angrily swears to kill the doctors if they don't treat his son, but they still refused, saying they are willing to die to ensure their families' safety from the terrorist group. As a result, Irfaan dies, and Khan swears to put an end to the threat of the terrorist group in revenge for his son's death. After finding out that the group of terrorists is taking refuge in the village of Dalgate, Khan and his men manage to attack and kill the criminals. Unfortunately, a family is caught in the crossfire, and they are killed as well. A young boy named Altaaf is the only family member who survives the shooting. He is severely traumatized by seeing his parents and sister die before his eyes and is haunted by the memory of the masked face of one of the police officers who shot at his family: that police officer is Khan. Altaaf falls unconscious and is jailed by Khan's men, much to Khan's anger, who then berates his officers for placing an orphaned boy in a cell just because his family offered shelter to the terrorists. Khan's wife Neelima (Sonali Kulkarni), having just lost Irfaan and feeling sorry for Altaaf, attempts to persuade Khan to let them adopt the boy. Khan, despite his fear that Altaaf may one day discover the truth and get revenge for it, reluctantly agrees, feeling extremely remorseful for killing Altaaf's family.
Just when Altaaf seemed to have settled down in his new home and accepted Khan and Neelima as his new parents, he finds Khan's mask and realizes that Khan was one of the police who killed his family. After an unsuccessful attempt on Khan's life, the angry Altaaf runs away and is found and brought up by a terrorist group led by their Pathan leader Hilal Kohistani (Jackie Shroff), who brainwashes him into thinking that he and his men act according to Islamic principles and trains him to become a terrorist. Ten years later, Hilal and an adult Altaaf (Hrithik Roshan) are assigned the task of completing "Mission Kashmir," a plan of an unnamed terrorist sponsor that involves — or so Altaaf is told — killing the Indian prime minister. Hilal uses Altaaf's hatred as a means to achieve his own goals, all the while encouraging Altaaf to target Khan (who is now an Inspector General) in revenge of his family's death. Altaaf visits his childhood friend and TV personality Sufiya Parvez (Preity Zinta) and, though he falls in love with her and helps at her concerts, he still uses her to try and make Hilal's side plans (which is to blow up the TV tower of Srinagar on Khan's birthday) successful. He makes another unsuccessful attempt on Khan's life and, in the process, Khan recognizes him and begins trying to track him down, much to Neelima's discomfort, resulting a fallout between Khan and Neelima. At the same time, Sufiya learns of Altaaf's occupation as a militant, and breaks off her relationship with him, feeling somewhat betrayed, despite knowing that his family tragedy has caused him to go that way. On the same date Atlaaf's family was murdered, Altaaf makes another attempt on Khan by having three of Hilal's men to plant a bomb on Khan's briefcase. Unfortunately, this time, Neelima falls victim to it, much to the distraught of both Khan and Altaaf, with the former being unable to apologize for his argument with her and the latter screaming in remorseful agony for killing her.
Eventually, Khan manages to invade one of Hilal's men's hideouts and discovers evidence and information about Mission Kashmir after catching the men who planted the briefcase bomb. After going through some cassette tapes with the help from Sufiya, he realizes that Mission Kashmir has nothing to do with taking down the Prime Minister at all: instead, the true goal of Mission Kashmir is to launch missiles on the local Muslim mosque and the local Hindu temple to escalate Hindu-Muslim conflict across the subcontinent, thereby dividing Kashmir and turning it into a war zone. It also turns out that the attack on the TV tower was planned to spread the rumor of murdering the Prime Minister to cover up the terrorists' true goal. Hilal deliberately does not tell Altaaf what Mission Kashmir really is, knowing that Altaaf would not support it and would try to stop it; this was evident of when Atlaaf leaves to the swampy hideouts to prepare for the launches, Hilal secretly tells one of his men to keep an eye on Atlaaf, ordering his death if he doesn't consent over what the true targets will be. Through staging a fire in the jail that allowed one of the bomb-briefcase men to escape, Khan and his men managed to track down and capture Hilal, but they are distraught to hear that Altaaf and the other terrorists have left for to launch the missiles, something which neither the police nor the army can take action, as they still don't have any idea or time to find out where the missiles will be launched. Deciding to play wise on this, Khan offers to make a deal with Hilal: going under the false pretense of allowing Hilal and his men to continue forward with Mission Kashmir in exchange for Altaaf, whom Khan swore to kill. He secretly lies to Hilal that he is more occupied with revenge for Neelima's death rather than doing his job of serving his country. Seeing that Khan's 'hatred' of Altaaf is worthy of a Pathan's duty, Hilal accepts the deal, and to ensure no other mistake will be made, Khan goes alone with Hilal to the missile hideouts.
As Hilal and Khan reached the swamps, Hilal tells Altaaf of Khan's whereabouts. At that point, an enraged, hate-filled Altaaf starts attacking a weary Khan to exact his revenge for his family's demise. While doing so, Khan reveals to him the true goals of Mission Kashmir, stating that Kashmir will be turned into a hell if the Hindu-Muslim conflicts arise by the missiles. Having had enough of listening to him, Altaaf attempts to shoot Khan in the head. Khan, expressing his dear love for Altaaf and his sorrowful regret for killing his family, is willing to accept his fate, but begs Altaaf to stop Hilal and his plans. As Altaaf struggles to do it, he then remembers that he once knew about the shrines Neelima took him to and the comment Neelima said about choosing sides during her visit earlier. Unwilling to betray his mother, Atlaaf decides to put his plan of revenge aside and aids Khan into stopping Hilal and his men from targeting the holy shrines. Just as things are about to end, Hilal throws a bomb to distract them before getting shot to death by Altaaf, giving Hilal's men a chance to prepare to blow up the shrines, much to Altaaf's shock. While Khan fights back by shooting several terrorists to death, Altaaf redeems himself by taking possession of a missile launcher and using it to destroy the other launchers and kill the remaining terrorists, thus saving the shrines. Eventually, Altaaf gets shot in the torso, and he falls into the swamps. Khan then jumps in and safely takes the unconscious Altaaf back to dry land, evading the explosion of the hideouts caused by Altaaf's act of redemption.
The plans of Mission Kashmir are revealed to the public by the media, and the terrorist sponsor's hideout is found by Kashmiri police, who shoot the sponsor offscreen as he tries to get away after killing two of his associates. Altaaf ends up having a nice dream based one of his pictures he drew as a child before waking up in Khan's house, where he reconciles with Sufiya and forgives Khan, accepting him as his father again after 10 years.

 Reception

Film journal Screen praised the performances, but further wrote, "Chopra makes a sincere effort in his latest film Mission Kashmir to bring to the fore, the turmoil in the valley. But one feels disappointed, all the same, that there is very little of Kashmiriyat in the story, which is more of a personal conflict between the victim of a police shoot-out and a police officer."

 Criticism:-

The film was the first box office flop for Subhash Ghai and critical reviews were mixed. Ghai has since gone on record defending the film, stating that he originally developed it as solely a story of a father and his three daughters (their love interests were secondary). However, distributors apparently put pressure on him to showcase more of Hrithik Roshan in the film (his popularity skyrocketed during the making of this film). Kareena Kapoor has also since gone on record supporting the film in spite of its debacle, thanking Ghai for giving her a role that allowed to her showcase a lot of range. Jackie Shroff was nominated for a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 2002.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (Hindi: कभी ख़ुशी कभी ग़म... translation: Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sadness) is a Bollywood film released in India and countries with large NRI populations on 14 December 2001.
It features Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji in a guest appearance. It is director Karan Johar's second movie (after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai).
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... was the highest grossing Indian film in the overseas market until 2006, when its record was broken by Johar's third film, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. It climbed up to 3rd place in the British box office within two weeks of release, and maintained its place for over 3 weeks. It got to 32nd place at the American box office, opening there 4 January 2002. The film was the first Bollywood feature to see a theatrical release in Germany (with German subtitles, a dubbed version was produced too).
Story:-
Yashvardon Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) is a rich businessman living with his loving wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) and two sons Rahul and Rohan. Rahul was adopted whilst Rohan is their biological son. Rahul is indebted to his parents when he finds out at the age of ten that he is adopted. As an adult Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) returns from studying abroad for many years. Yash, being very traditional, decides to arrange Rahul's marriage to his friend's daughter Naina (Rani Mukherji). Rahul promises to marry Naina and abide by the family's traditions. However, he soons comes across Anjali (Kajol) and instantly falls for her. However, he knows that he cannot marry her as she is from a working class background. He informs his father that he is in love with Anjali - Yash is enraged and hurt by this news so Rahul promises to not marry her. Rahul goes to tell Anjali that he cannot marry her but is shocked to discover that her father (Alok Nath) has suddenly died. He cannot bare to see her living alone and decides to marry her, against his father's wishes. When he brings her home, Yash declares that the reason for Rahul's action is that he is not of Raichand blood. He throws Rahul out of the house, saying he no longer considers him his son. Rahul and Anjali decide to move to London along with Anjali's little sister Pooja. Nandini also sends Rahul's nanny Sayeeda (Farida Jalal) so that Rahul can always feel a mother's love. Before leaving, Rahul visits Rohan who is in boarding school. He requests that Rohan never asks why he left or where he went.
Ten years later, Rohan (Hrithik Roshan) learns from his grandmothers (Achala Sachdev and Sushma Seth) that Rahul was adopted and also why Rahul left. He sees the pain in the broken family and vows to bring Rahul and Anjali back. He finds out from Anjali's friends that Rahul and Anjali moved to London. He tells his parents that he intends to do his MBA in London to which they agree. In London, Rahul and his family have settled into a rich lifestyle - he and Anjali have a son named Krish. Rohan enrols into King's College London where Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) is a student. Rohan and Pooja meet and Pooja agrees to help Rohan bring Rahul and Anjali back. Pooja informs Rahul that Rohan is her friend's brother and needs a place to stay. Rahul reluctantly agrees to let Rohan stay, not knowing who he really is. Rohan reminds the family of how much they miss India. At a school function, Rohan asks Krish to perform the Indian National Anthem. When Krish informs everybody of advise Rohan had given him, Rahul discovers Rohan's true identity (as Rahul had also given Rohan the same advice ten years ago). Rohan tries to persuade his brother to come home. Rahul refuses as he still believes that Yash does not love him. Pooja however, knows that Rahul will come home - she encourages Rohan to invite his parents over to London and get them to meet Rahul. Rahul and Nandini share a happy reunion but Rahul still refuses to talk to Yash. Yash finds out the truth and is furious with Rohan. Yash's mother is on her death bed and her death wish is for her funeral pyre to be lit by Yash, Rahul and Rohan. They all travel back to India for the funeral, but Rahul and Yash do not speak with one another.
Nandini informs Yash for the first time in ten years that she believes he was wrong for cutting off ties with Rahul. Rohan eventually talks sense into Rahul and makes him realises just how much Yash and Nandini really loved him. Rahul and Yash meet again and Yash expresses his guilt fro disowning Rahul and also says he thinks Rahul was foolish for believing Yash did not love him. Things end well with Rohan and Pooja's wedding and a belated celebration of Rahul and Anjali's wedding.

The second half of the film is set principally in London, and many scenes were filmed there. The film was also shot in places like Egypt, Bicester Village Shopping Centre (on DVD's deleted scenes), Blenheim Palace (King's College in the film), Bluewater Shopping Centre (the mall), Bond St., Kingsway Rd., Covent Garden, British Museum, Butler's Wharf, Heathrow Airport, Leicester Square, Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Piccadilly Circus, Stowe School, The Strand and Waddesdon Manor.
The "e" added to the second Kabhi in the title was mainly because the director, Karan Johar believes in numerology. Shahrukh Khan's son, Aryan Khan plays the young Rahul in the opening credits of the movie.
Abhishek Bachchan initially had a cameo in this movie but it was later cut out. Karan Johar mentioned in the Deleted Scenes DVD that the legendary actress Waheeda Rahman was to play Amitabh Bachchan's mother in the film. A few scenes were shot but her husband died and Waheeda Rahman was forced to opt out. In 2005 the movie was released on DVD in Poland as Czasem słońce, czasem deszcz (Sometimes sun, sometimes rain).

Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (Hindi: मुझसे दोस्ती करोगे, translation: "Will you be my friend?") is an Indian Bollywood movie released on 9 August 2002 directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. It is about the love triangle of three friends played by Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji.

 Story:-
Raj Khanna (Hrithik Roshan), Pooja Sahani (Rani Mukerjee) and Tina Kapoor (Kareena Kapoor) are childhood friends. While Raj has always been attracted to the vivacious Tina, he is completely unaware of the quiet Pooja's love for him.

Raj's father (Kiran Kumar) decides to move to England with his family to take up a new job, so Raj has to go away from his friends. He makes Tina promise to write to him via e-mail. But Tina soon becomes occupied with other things, so it's the loyal Pooja who writes to Raj; but she always signs with Tina's name to help Tina keep her promise. Raj and Pooja have many things in common, and their e-mails bring them very close to each other. A decade and a half later, Raj returns to India for a short vacation. By now, he's in love with the girl he has been writing to, and believes he can recognise her at first sight.

When the three of them finally meet, Raj, to Pooja's disappointment, completely ignores her and is besotted with Tina, who is as vivacious as ever. However, during the two weeks of his vacation, he cannot help but notice that the real Tina is completely different compared to the Tina he knew from the e-mails. He also starts to like Pooja, without realising she is the one he is really in love with.

He returns to London, where Pooja coincidentally arrives for an interview, and there he discovers that it was Pooja who wrote all the letters. They confess their love for each other and decide to get married, but fate plays an unexpected trick on them. Back in India, Tina's father (Sachin Khedekar) has died, leaving Tina all alone in the world. By now, she is in love with Raj as well.

Pooja now refuses to marry Raj, since she does not want to break Tina's heart. Raj is the only one Tina has left now. Raj's parents also agree to the marriage, but Raj wants to tell them that he really loves Pooja. Pooja however, still refuses to marry Raj and so he angrily vows to her that he will only marry Tina if Pooja marries someone else on the same day.

Enter a friend of Raj, Rohan Verma (Uday Chopra). Rohan is greatly attracted to Pooja and the families are all for the match. Pooja bows to the inevitable and agrees to marry Rohan on the same day as Raj and Tina. That way, she hopes to satisfy Raj's condition and ensure Tina's happiness. Rohan realises something is wrong and that Pooja does not love him, but keeps up the charade nevertheless. On the day of the marriage, Tina realises that Raj is really in love with Pooja, so she gives him up and finally Pooja and Raj get married.

  Box office:-

The film was heavily hyped before release due to the A list cast resulting in excessive media focus on the film. It however failed to do well at the Indian box office.[ This was attributed to lacklustre reviews and to a certain extent the competition it faced from Devdas which was still strong in its third week. The film however performed better overseas.

Koi... Mil Gaya (Hindi: कोई मिल गया, translation: I... Found Someone) is a 2003 Bollywood science fiction film, directed by Rakesh Roshan (who also has a cameo role), starring Hrithik Roshan, Rekha, and Preity Zinta. It was released on 8 August 2003. It was shot in Kasauli, Nanital, Bhimtal and in Canada.

The film was screened at the Jerusalem Film Festival and the Denmark NatFilm Festival. Rakesh Roshan produced a sequel to the film titled Krrish, which opened worldwide on 23 June 2006 and also became a success.
 Story:-
A space scientist named Dr. Sanjay Susra Mehra (played by the film's director Rakesh Roshan) creates a computer from which he dispatches variations of the syllable Om, hoping to attract the attention of extraterrestrial life. When he finally receives a response, the scientific community mocks him and makes fun of him.

As he is driving home, an alien spacecraft enters the vicinity. He looks out the window, exclaims, "UFO!" and begins to veer off the road. His pregnant wife (Rekha) turns the steering wheel, causing the car to flip over a stone and explode. Dr. Mehra dies in the crash, but his wife is thrown out of the car, survives the wreck and decides to return to India. When their son Rohit (Hrithik Roshan, who is Rakesh Roshan's real son) is born, he is developmentally disabled. His mother raises him with tender care in the town of Kasauli, where he grows up to be a young man of limited intellect and childish personality, yet with a loving heart. Rohit has a number of much younger friends; children with whom he plays and who are very loyal to him.

As the story unfolds, he befriends a young woman named Nisha (Preity Zinta). Nisha feels sympathy for him and humors him as one would humor a child, having learned of his mental disability from his mother, who chastises Nisha's suitor Raj for beating up Rohit.

Rohit and Nisha find Sanjay's Om computer and summon the aliens by accident. The visiting aliens leave in haste and one of them is left behind. Rohit, Nisha, and Rohit's young friends find the alien, befriend him, and name him Jadoo ("Magic") when they discover his abilities of psychokinesis. Jadoo's remarkably vast intelligence leads him to discover that Rohit is mentally subnormal, whereupon he uses his powers to enhance the boy's mind. Rohit is now accepted by young-adult society. Raj and his buddies attempt to embarrass Rohit multiple times, only to be beaten in fights as well as in a basketball game, because Rohit's bodily strength has increased with his mental caliber. Rohit and his young friends also receive a little help from Jadoo during the basketball game with humorous results.

Nisha and Rohit spend more and more time together, before and after his enhancement; ultimately Rohit proposes marriage to her, and she agrees. Jadoo's presence is kept secret from all humans except Rohit's friends and mother.

However, the government has not given up their search for the alien arrival. Police capture Jadoo, who is then rescued by Rohit after he summons the aliens once more to come back for Jadoo. Jadoo flees in his returned family's spaceship and apparently takes Rohit's new powers with him. Rohit is again mentally disabled, which saves him from prosecution by the government. Later, Jadoo restores Rohit's special abilities permanently. Nisha and Rohit can now lead a happy life together.

It turned out to be a commercial flop, yet has garnered positive reviews and has achieved the status of a cult movie.

 Story:-
Karan Shergil (Hrithik Roshan) is a young man who has no actual goal in mind or plans for his future. He represents those urban youth in modern India, who have money but little ambition or purpose in their lives. His father is a businessman; his brother is a successful individual living in America, but Karan is drifting along. His girlfriend, Romi (Preity Zinta), a student activist and reporter who espouses fashionable causes out of well-meaning sincerity, tells him he needs to find a goal in life. When a friend announces he is going to join the Indian Military Academy, Karan applies as well, despite dissent from his parents.
Karan's first days at the IMA is a disaster. Because he is indisciplined and unused to a spartan existence, he keeps getting into trouble at the academy. Upset, he leaves the academy without permission, sneaking over the wall. Back home, his parents are unsurprised and even though they urge him to join the family business, they are disappointed with the way their son has turned out, especially in comparison to his elder brother. Romi, meanwhile, is tired of his aimless and indecisive ways and calls off their relationship. Karan finally comes to terms with his situation and makes his decision. He returns to the IMA, takes his punishment, and becomes a focused, disciplined cadet leader, graduating as an officer Lieutenant Karan Shergill.
Lt. Karan Shergill (the starting rank for all new commissioned officer in the Indian Army) is posted to the 3rd Battalion of the Punjab Regiment, commanded by Col. Sunil Damle (Amitabh Bachchan) somewhere in the Kargil sector, and handles his responsibilities well. From an immature teenager Karan transforms into a mature officer, he finally decides the essence of his life or his goal. Karan comes home on leave and finds out that Romi is getting engaged and goes to the ceremony to congratulate her. Back at home Karan is recalled to his post as his leave is cut short due to outbreak of hostlities in Kargil. He reports back to his post where he is promoted to the rank of Acting Captain . His battalion CO briefs the officers on the latest situation. The battalion has been assigned to secure Point 5179, crucial vantage point dominating the army's main supply line, the NH1D. The first part of the assault is successful and battalion destroys the enemy's screening units with Karan cited for his bravery in saving another officer's life. In the second phase of the assault Karan's unit engages in a failed attempt to storm and capture the Pakistani strongholds located on the mountain. The Pakistanis have the advantage due to their strategic position, and deal the unit heavy losses during the attack.
Capt. Karan Shergill and a group of 12 are next given orders to encircle the enemy position and attack it from behind. To do this, they must scale a 1000-ft wall of rock. After the unit sustains an attack in a grass field and loses their commanding officer, the remaining men scale the cliff and attack the Pakistani stronghold from behind during the night.               Krrish (Hindi: कृष [ˈkrɪʃ]) is a 2006 Indian superhero science-fiction film The film was directed, produced, and written by Rakesh Roshan, while the screenplay was written by Robin Bhatt, Sachin Bhowmick, Honey Irani, Akarsh Khurana, and Sanjay Masoom. The film is a sequel to Koi... Mil Gaya, and relates the story of Krishna (Hrithik Roshan), the son of the previous film's protagonists who inherits his father's superhuman abilities. After falling in love with Priya (Priyanka Chopra), he follows her to Singapore, where he takes on the persona of "Krrish" to keep his identity secret after saving children from a burning circus. From that moment on he is regarded as a superhero, and must later thwart the plans of the evil Dr. Siddhant (Naseeruddin Shah), who has built a machine capable of seeing the future. The film became the highest grossing Indian film ever until Dhoom 2 broke the record five months later.

The film was mainly shot in Mumbai, India and Singapore. The film was considered the first major superhero film to be produced in Bollywood since Shekhar Kapur's Mr. India (1987). The film's stunts, choreographed by Tony Ching Siu-Tung, were adapted into storyboard before accepted into the film. Several scenes in the film were made using a lot of visual effects, created by Marc Kolbe and Craig A. Mumma.

The film was cited as a new "trend setter" in Indian cinema. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film an aggregate rating of 100% (fresh). Being one of the highest grossing films of the year, Krrish grossed a INR117 crore (US$23.4 million) total, against a INR45 crore (US$9 million) budget. It was a box office success and was elevated to a "blockbuster" rating on Box Office India. A sequel is currently in development.

 Story:-
The plot of the film connects with the predecessor. For more information on the predecessor's plot, see Koi... Mil Gaya

The film commences with a twelve-year-old Krishna Mehra undergoing an intelligence quotient test by a professor, who suspects his family have superpowers. His grandmother Sonia (Rekha) takes the young Krishna to a remote mountain village in northern India to conceal his unique abilities. Years later, Krishna (Hrithik Roshan) meets camper Priya (Priyanka Chopra) and her friend Honey (Manini Mishra), and they soon become friends after Krishna saves Priya from a hang glider accident. Krishna and Priya grow close just before she departs, but Krishna has the stronger feelings of love.

After returning to Singapore, Priya and Honey are fired by their boss (Archana Puran Singh) for illegitimately taking an extra five days of holiday leave. Honey suggests bringing Krishna to Singapore and making a television program about him. Their boss sees potential in this plan and revokes her previous decision to get rid of them. Aware of Krishna's love towards her, Priya calls him to join her in Singapore.

Krishna's grandmother protests that people will want to take advantage of his abilities. She then explains that his father Rohit was hired to help design a machine to see the future by Dr. Siddhant Arya (Naseeruddin Shah) in order to prevent wars and help prepare against natural disasters. But on the night of Krishna's birth, Rohit called Sonia to say that he was being used. Rohit reportedly died in a laboratory accident that night, with Krishna's mother dying shortly after of a broken heart. Krishna promises his grandmother that he will never reveal his powers, so she permits him to go. In Singapore, during the production of the television program, Krishna keeps his word. With the program revealing nothing exceptional about him, Priya and Honey are once again fired.

Krishna later meets with Kristian Li (Bin Xia), who is attempting to raise funds to pay for his young sister's leg surgery. He invites Krishna and Priya to the Great Bombay Circus, but during the performance a firework explodes and ignites the tent, which is swiftly evacuated. Several children remain trapped in the blaze, and Krishna is faced with the dilemma of saving the children without revealing his abilities. He dons a broken black clown's mask and puts his jacket on inside-out, creating the persona of Krrish. Later, Kristian sees Krrish fighting some goons and removing his mask. He is shocked to learn that his friend Krishna is Krrish. As Krrish is being offered a reward for his deeds, Krishna asks Kristian to assume the identity, so that he can pay for his sister's surgery.

Meanwhile, Priya too comes to know the truth when she sees the footage of her camera (which can be seen in her hand at the circus), in which Krishna can be seen wearing his jacket inside-out and the mask at the circus. She and Honey decide to release the footage on TV to make Krishna a star. During their discussions, Krishna arrives and overhears the girls talking about how Priya had been lying to him, and will create a big sensation by revealing his identity to the world. Just before Priya confesses to Honey that in this drama she has genuinely fallen in love with Krishna, he leaves, dejected.

After being confronted by Krishna at his hotel about what she said, Priya realizes her mistake and stops her boss from revealing Krrish's identity. She then meets Vikram Sinha (Sharat Saxena), who has been searching for Krishna for a long time, and takes Sinha to him. He informs Krishna that his father Rohit is alive. He tells that in the past he and Rohit had become very close friends. After completing the machine, Rohit and Sinha, both tested it and were shocked to see Siddhant holding a gun besides Rohit's head. Rohit understood that Siddhant was going to kill him and then use the machine for his own selfish needs. He starts was able to destroy the machine, before being taken prisoner by Siddhant, who said that he was killed in a lab accident.

Meanwhile back in the present timeline, Siddhant has rebuilt the computer after many years. He uses the computer to reveal his future and sees Krrish killing him. Siddhant quickly kills Kristian, thinking that he is Krrish. The real Krrish, Krishna, later follows Siddhant to the island. When Siddhant looks into the future again, he sees that the visual hasn't changed, and is shocked to see Krrish still alive and on his island.

When Krishna enters the compound, Siddhant orders his thugs to get rid of him. A vicious fight ensues. Krishna is able to defeat the thugs and save Priya and Rohit. In the final scene, Krrish wounds Siddhant. Before he dies, Siddhant asks Krrish who he is, and Krishna reveals himself. After revealing to Rohit that he is his son, Krishna takes Priya and Rohit back to India, reuniting him with Sonia.

 Production:-
Due to the success of Koi... Mil Gaya, a sequel was prepared,[ initially titled Koi... Tumsa Nahin. After several months, the Roshans confirmed and announced the film. Preity Zinta was confimed to be replaced by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, though she said, "Yes. I am in a sequel. The story will start where Koi... Mil Gaya ended." Rakesh also confimed that the film would not be an "out-and-out action film". Three-fourths of the movie was filmed in Singapore over a month's period, though filming also took place in Mumbai, India.
The locations used in filming include Singapore's famous zoo and Singapore National Library's Plaza. Singapore's police were on the filming location to protect vehicles and other filming equipment. Robinson Road was one of the main filming locations. However, it rained heavily during filming there, causing delays that cost production $25,000. There were traffic blocks because the film's action scenes required no less than 250 feet high industrial cranes weighing 30 tons. Two were used, in case one broke down.
During the film's development, Prakash Jaju, Priyanka Chopra's manager was sued by Rakesh Roshan under a case of threatening calls to him to settle his accounts with Priyanka Chopra.Jaju was also being asked to withdraw his case in court about the film being developed using illegal money. Several incidents also occurred during the film's production stage.
During filming of a flying stunt, one of the wires tied to Hrithik Roshan's leg broke, causing him to fall 50 feet, though he miraculously landed safely on a shop's canopy. Hrithik described the incident as a "freak accident", stating, "I was skydiving to my death till I fell on a six-feet-long canopy of a shop that was out because of the slight drizzle. The canopy had iron rods. But I missed those rods too. What do I say? I guess the right word to describe the situation would be jadoo (magic)." However, Hrithik broke his right thumb and a toe during the strenuous training for the ambitious wire work used in the film. Despite only 25 days of training in China, his instructor, Siu-Tung Ching, thought that he could pull off stunts that usually take years of training. While performing a stunt scene on the circus set, Hrithik suffered a hamstring tear in his right leg. Doctors prescribed bed rest for two weeks, but he continued shooting after only two days by using painkillers.
Considering the film was a superhero film, many visual effects were used, which involved 1,200 shots. Marc Kolbe and Craig A. Mumma created the visual effects for the film. Describing the effects, Rakesh Roshan stated, "If you liked the visual effects in Koi... Mil Gaya, you will find them far better in Krrish. I do not think audiences have seen anything like this in Hindi films."

 Reception:-

Krrish was the second-highest grossing Bollywood film of 2006, according to Box Office India, earning over Rs. 69 crores net gross in India, and was classified as a "blockbuster".The film grossed $4,320,000 in the overseas market and was declared a "Hit" by Box Office India. Bringing its worldwide total to a 117 crores.

Krrish received generally positive reviews from viewers. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie an aggregate rating of 100%, based on 7 reviews. In India, Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama believed that the film "more than [met] the expectations", noting that Hrithik Roshan "[enacted] a role that fits him like a glove" and praising the final forty minutes of the movie. He also enjoyed the action scenes and effects, but felt that there were issues with pacing in the film's first hour, as the plot "doesn't move beyond the romantic scenes". Overall, however, he deemed Krrish to be "a terrifically exciting and compelling experience", and even considered it superior to Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Though Jaspreet Pandohar of BBC was critical of the script for being "low on originality", he praised Hrithik Roshan's performance and the action scenes choreographed by Tony Ching Siu-Tung.

Overseas, Richard James Havis of The Hollywood Reporter stated, "This Bollywood epic crunches together romance, comedy, extraterrestrials, martial arts, dancing and action to tell an entertaining story about a reluctant Indian superhero" but said it may be "far too crazed for foreign viewers". David Chute of LA Weekly deemed it a "hearty pulp cinema that really sticks to your ribs". Likewise, Ronnie Scheib of Variety said it was an "enjoyable, daffily improbable escapist romp", with Laura Kern of The New York Times saying it was a blend of "carefree romance, show-stopping action and sci-fi". However, Leo Goldsmith of notcoming.com criticized the special effects, and felt it "[wore] its corporate sponsorship on its sleeve" in the dialogue and "every other shot of the film".
  Awards And Nominations:-
Krrish was one of India's possible nominations for the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, but the country ultimately chose Rang De Basanti as its pick. Despite this, Krrish has won numerous awards, especially by way of Hrithik Roshan, who won the IIFA Best Actor Award, Star Screen Award Best Actor, Zee Cine Award Best Actor- Male, BFJA - Best Actor Award (Hindi), GIFA Best Actor, and a Filmfare Best Actor Award nomination. The film itself won three Filmfare Awards—Filmfare Best Special Effects Award, Filmfare Best Action Award and Filmfare Best Background Score Award—and was nominated for the awards of Filmfare Best Villain Award, Filmfare Best Director Award, Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award, and Filmfare Best Film Award. The film also won a National Film Awards for Best Special Effects. Priyanka Chopra won the IIFA Award for "Best On-Screen Beauty" for Krrish. However, there was an appeal by the Mumbai city police commissioner to censor the fast-paced rash driving scenes in the film due to fears that it would inspire Indian youths to ride their motorcycles rashly, resulting in an increase in the number of road accidents. The film's sequel, Dhoom 3 is set to release in 2013.

  Story:-
The film begins with Mr. A (Hrithik Roshan) sky-diving and landing on a train that is carrying the British Queen. He steals her crown by disguising himself as the Queen and escapes. Newly-promoted officer Ali (Uday Chopra) and Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) are introduced to Shonali Bose (Bipasha Basu), a special officer assigned to investigate Mr. A's case, who also happens to be a fellow classmate of Jai. After the initial investigation, Dixit's analyzes the underlying trend in Mr. A's heists. As per his analysis, a theft in one of two famous Mumbai city museums will follow.
However, Dixit realizes that the artifact in the museum he is guarding happens to be imperfect. He immediately flees to the other museum when a disguised Mr. A steals a rare diamond and escapes. In a televised challenge to the police, Mr. A announces that he will steal an ancient warrior sword. In response, Dixit, Bose and Khan enforce a strict vigil at the location housing the sword. At night, Mr. A meets his impersonator in the room that holds the sword. The police are alerted, but they manage to steal the sword and escape. The impersonator turns out to be Sunehri (Aishwarya Rai), a woman who idolizes Mr. A, and after this they form an alliance of sorts.
In Rio de Janeiro, Mr. A and Sunehri plan their next heist. As Dixit's analysis has named Rio the location of Mr. A's next heist, Jai and Ali travel to the city. Meanwhile, the relationship between Mr. A and Sunehri evolves into romance. He unveils his real identity, Aryan, to her. However, Mr. A discovers that Sunehri is a spy working for Jai after seeing them together at a theatre and then a parade. Aryan forces Sunehri to play a game of Russian roulette. Sunehri cries and refuses to shoot Aryan because she loves him, but Aryan forces her. However, after six attempted shots from the gun, neither is injured because Aryan had not inserted a bullet into the gun. Sunehri admits she betrayed Aryan and that she loves him. Elsewhere in Rio de Janeiro, Ali develops strong affections towards Monali (Bipasha Basu), Shonali's twin sister. In their final heist, Aryan and Sunehri successfully steal some early Lydian coins while disguised as performing dwarfs. Sunehri indicates that she does not wish to remain allied with Jai, forcing Jai and Ali to go after them. After the chase, all of them end up on the top of a waterfall, where Sunehri is caught by Ali. Sunehri, despite conveying her feelings for Aryan, shoots him. Aryan falls from the waterfall, after which Jai allows Sunehri to go free. After six months, it is revealed that Aryan is still alive and has opened a restaurant somewhere in the Fiji islands with Sunehri. Jai meets Aryan and Sunehri at the restaurant and states that despite their crimes, he does not wish to imprison the couple. Aryan shows him where all the stolen artifacts can be found. Jai is aware of the couple's feelings towards each other, but warns them against returning to their life of crime.

 Production:-

The Dhoom series began with the release of Dhoom in 2004. The film became a commercial box office hit and received generally positive reviews from audiences, but not so much from critics As a result, producer Yash Chopra announced plans for sequel to the film, entitled Dhoom 2: Back In Action. John Abraham, portrayer of Kabir Sharma, the villain of the predecessor, was in talks to appear in the film, but Chopra did not want Dhoom 2 to repeat the stories featured in its predecessor. Instead, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai were introduced into the franchise as the sequel's main villains. Aishwarya Rai's character was summarized as Catwoman, a female fictional comic book fictional character. Rai stated, "All I can tell you is it would be nothing like anything you've seen me do before."Producer Aditya Chopra told Rai to lose weight after she gained it for her role in 2004's Bride & Prejudice. Yash Chopra stated,

But yes, the role does require Aishwarya to convey oodles of sensuality. She has asked for a couple of months to get into shape. We (at Yash Raj Films) are very clear about every character in every script and what's required of the actors. Before Dhoom, Esha Deol was specifically briefed about the look and the attitude she needed to cultivate. She readily agreed, and look at what Dhoom did to her career!
Roshan also lost twelve pounds of weight at Aditya Chopra's request. With the exception of Abraham and Esha Deol, all of the other main actors in Dhoom were hired again for Dhoom 2.
Director Sanjay Gadhvi did not include motorcycle heists in Dhoom 2 in order to differentiate it from Dhoom.
Dhoom 2 was filmed in Mumbai (India), Namibia, Durban (South Africa), and Rio de Janeiro, (Brazil),making it the first Bollywood film to be filmed in Brazil. Air travel from India to South Africa was sponsored by Kingfisher Airlines. In total, production lasted eighteen months and cost of Rs 350 million. To ensure the sequel would be different from the original, which became famous for its brash motorcycle stunts, director Sanjay Gadhvi included very few motorcycles in Dhoom 2. Nonetheless, Roshan's role required him to perform several dangerous stunts involving activities such as roller-blading, sand boarding and snow boarding.
              The film made extensive use of visual effects, which were filmed at Yash Raj Studios.While filming at Yash Raj Studios, the film suffered from a flood that destroyed the studio sets and delayed production. Fight and action sequences were storyboarded before being shown to Gadhvi and Allan Amin, who would make changes. The scenes were then sketched, given "proper shot list[s]", and shared with Tata Elxsi, who oversaw the previsualization of the sequences. Several scenes were filmed with the use of green screen and computer-generated imagery. For example, the stunts Roshan's performed on a train in the Namib Desert used green screen; after Roshan recorded the stunts on a set, Gadhvi traveled to the desert to film the background. Other stunts in the film were performed by stuntmen whose faces were later digitally exchanged with the actors'. The bullet effects and Hrithik's gadgets and mechanical arm were also computer generated. Abhishek Bachchan scene coming out of a lake using a jet ski also used green screen. Abhishek's stunt came out of 90 degrees, but Sanjay Gandhvi wanted a 60 degrees jump. So, Sanjay Gandhvi shot the scenes on Super 35, and was able to change the angle. Gandhvi discussed the use of technology in an interview;

We've done animation and pre-visualization for all the action sequences in Dhoom 2 and that is very important in terms of planning, cost effectiveness and also it's a new way of preparing for shoot and the film specially which is as set on such a large canvas such as Dhoom 2. In Dhoom 1 we had all the action sequences broken down and written. In this movie we had very big action sequences so we had all the scenes storyboarded and they would be checked, double checked and triple checked by myself, Alan Amin and Adi and we would then rectify if needed and that would be our level of planning.

In Kerala, the film was released to 22 theatres and grossed a sum of Rs 6,500,000 within a week.In Kochi, it was released to two theaters and earned a first week gross of Rs 1,200,000.[In Crown and Kozhikode, the total gross was more than Rs 600,000. In Andhra Pradesh and other Telugu areas, the film ran over 100 days due to good audience reception. In Chennai, the film set a record for grossing Rs 3,45,462 over its first weekend. However, the film opened at second place the following week due to the release of the celebrated Veyil. The film performed similarly in the rest of Tamil Nadu. Box Office India awarded it a "blockbuster" rating after the film grossed over Rs 1.34 billion (USD$34 million) with a budget of Rs 350 million
Dhoom 2 grossed USD $979,000 in North America in 63 theaters over its three-day opening weekend (USD $1.3 million over four days), becoming the third largest opening weekend for a Bollywood film in North America. Overall, it was the seventeenth ranked film at the American box office.Box Office Mojo reports the film earned a total of USD $2,643,586 inside the United States and a total of USD $29,752,841 in other countwood film In Mumbai, the film's distributors received a profit of 9.42 crores (Rs 94.2 million). Dhoom 2 ranked sixth among opening weekends for international films at the United Kingdom box-office with a gross (average per screen) of £8,151 At the Australian box office, the film had the twelfth highest opening and collected approximately $176,462. It grossed approximately $51,453 on five screens in New Zealand.
Reception:-        The film received decent reviews. Review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes reported 80% of five critics were positive and gave it a "fresh" certificate.[48] People of Variety commented, "Loaded with enough attitude, Bollywood starpower and buff bodies to stop a speeding train, pic has been doing humongous biz since its Nov. 24 worldwide opening, and provides adequate proof that Yash Raj Films is good for more than just family-oriented comedy-dramas."[49] Rachel Saltz of The New York Times reviewed, "The pleasure principle is palpable in the giddy, slick Dhoom 2, a satisfying example of the new, thoroughly modern Bollywood. The film is shot in sharp, primary colors, with sophisticated stunts, exotic location hopping and songs sung partly in English (and available on iTunes no less). Beginning in the Namibian desert with a bit of post-colonial mischief — the theft (literally) of the British crown — and making stops in Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro, this cops and robbers tale embraces and devours every cliché, style and half-naked body it encounters. Dhoom 2 may represent the newfangled Bollywood, but old-fashioned star power is what animates and elevates it above its occasional narrative flaws and longueurs."
Film Journal International's Ethan Alter said, "Dhoom 2 has all of the benefits of a big-budget Bollywood production: big-name stars, exotic locales, well-produced musical numbers and elaborate (by Bollywood standards, anyway) action sequences, including a daring train robbery and an extended motorcycle chase outside of Rio. In other words, it's exactly like all of the mainstream programmers that Hollywood churns out every summer, although those movies often suffer from a conspicuous shortage of singing and dancing on DayGlo sets. (Just think of how some peppy dance numbers would have enlivened generic blockbusters like Poseidon and X-Men: The Last Stand.) Dhoom 2 makes no lasting contributions to world cinema, but if two-and-a-half hours of disposable entertainment are all you're after, you could do far worse."
L.A. Weekly's David Chute stated the film, "A movie meal as satisfying as this one can make you feel that nothing else matters." Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama reported, "On the whole, Dhoom 2 is a winner all the way. At the box-office, the film has already embarked on an earth-shattering initial and with multiple shows being conducted at multiplexes [16/18] with inflated ticket rates, the film will set new records in days to come. For Yash Raj, who've not only produced but also distributed the film, Dhoom 2 should emerge as one of the biggest hits of their career. Blockbuster!" The review mostly praised the casting, performances, visual effects usage, direction, musical score and story, giving it three and a half stars over five. Jaspreet Pandohar of the BBC gave it a negative review, writing, "By roping in acclaimed action director Alan Amin to take care of the thrills and spills, you'd expect Gadhvi to have spent time crafting out a sophisticated storyline instead of simply sending his cast on a cat-and-mouse chase around the globe. That the twist in Dhoom 2's tail is not explained is yet another shortcoming. It's only Roshan's charismatic performance as the criminal mastermind, and the sizzling chemistry he shares with Rai's sassy cohort, that rescues this adventure from becoming an elongated tourism commercial." He gave the film two out of five stars.
The city of Mumbai's police commissioner called for censoring of the fast-paced rash driving scenes in the film due to fears that it would inspire Indian youths to ride their motorcycles rashly, resulting in an increase in the number of road accidents.[ The film also sparked controversy and a court case for a scene containing a kiss between Rai and Roshan. Rai and Bachchan eventually fell in love after production ended, and were married on 20 April 2007 Unlike the original, the robberies depicted in Dhoom 2 were not inspired by any real-life crimes. The film, however, inspired the robbery of a man by his nephew, who wore clothing similar to Hrithik's in the film while committing the crime.

Jodhaa-Akbar (Hindi: जोधा अकबर, Urdu: جودھا اکبر) is an Indian epic film released on 15 February 2008. It is directed and produced by Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of the Academy Award-nominated Lagaan (2001). It stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles. This film also marks the debut of newcomer Abir Abrar. Extensive research went into the making of this film which began shooting at Karjat.
The film centers around the romance between the Muslim Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great, played by Hrithik Roshan, and the Hindu Rajput Princess Jodhabai who becomes his wife, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The music is composed by acclaimed music composer A. R. Rahman. The soundtrack of the movie was released on 19 January 2008. The film has won the Audience Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the São Paulo International Film Festival, two awards at the Golden Minbar International Film Festival, seven Star Screen Awards and five Filmfare Awards, in addition to two nominations at the 3rd Asian Film Awards.

 Synopsis:-

Jodhaa Akbar is a sixteenth century love story about a political marriage of convenience between a Mughal emperor, Akbar, and a Rajput princess, Jodhaa.
Political success knew no bounds for Emperor Akbar (Hrithik Roshan). After having secured the Hindu Kush, his empire extends from Afghanistan to the Bay of Bengal, and from the Himalayas to the Narmada River. Through a shrewd blend of diplomacy, intimidation and brute force, Akbar won the allegiance of the Rajputs. This allegiance was not universal. Maharana Pratap and many other Rajputs always considered Akbar as a foreign invader. Maharana Pratap also banned inter marriages between Rajputs who had given their daughters to the Mughals and the ones who did not. But little did Akbar know that when he married Jodhaa (Aishwarya Rai), a fiery Rajput princess, in order to further strengthen his relations with the Rajputs, he would in turn be embarking upon a new journey – the journey of true love.
The daughter of King Bharmal of Amer, Jodhaa resented being reduced to a mere political pawn in this marriage of alliance, and Akbar’s biggest challenge now lies in winning the love of Jodhaa – a love hidden deep below resentment and extreme prejudice.

  Historical Accuracy:-

Many of the events portrayed in the movie are based on real events. Certain Rajput groups claimed Jodhaa was married to Akbar's son, Jahangir, not Akbar. They also demanded a public apology from Ashutosh Gowariker. The film was not released in 30 cinema theatres in Rajasthan.
Several historians claim that Akbar's Rajput wife was never known as "Jodha Bai" during the Mughal period. According to Professor Shirin Moosvi, a historian of Aligarh Muslim University, neither the Akbarnama (a biography of Akbar commissioned by Akbar himself), nor any historical text from the period refer to her as Jodha Bai. Moosvi notes that the name "Jodha Bai" was first used to refer to Akbar's wife in the 18th and 19th centuries in historical writings. In Tuzk-e-Jahangiri, she is referred as Mariam Zamani.
According to historian Imtiaz Ahmad, the director of the Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library in Patna, the name "Jodha" was used for Akbar's wife for the first time by Lieutenant-Colonel James Tod, in his book Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan. According to Ahmad, Tod was not a professional historian. N R Farooqi claims that Jodha Bai was not the name of Akbar's Rajput queen; it was the name of Jahangir's Rajput wife.
Ashutosh Gowarikar's reaction was,
While making the film I did my best to go by the book. I consulted the best historians and went through the most rigorous research. And there are different names used for Akbar's wife, Jodhaa being one of them. In fact, there's a disclaimer about the Rajput queen's name at the beginning of the film. But to see that, the protesters have to see the film.

  Protests and legal issues:-

The portrayal of ethnic Rajput people in the movie was criticized by members of the Rajput community as misleading, politically motivated historical revisionism that minimized Rajput history and scapegoated them as evil. The community's protests against the film in some states, and it has been banned by the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand. However, the producer moved the Supreme Court by challenging it. Later, the Supreme Court of India lifted the ban on screening the film for now in Uttar Pradesh and some towns of Uttarakhand and Haryana. The court scrapped the Uttar Pradesh government ban as well as similar orders by authorities in Dehradun in Uttarkhand and in Ambala, Sonepat and Rewari in Haryana.

Ashutosh Gowariker hired a research team of historians and scholars from New Delhi, Aligarh, Lucknow, Agra and Jaipur to guide him on this film and help him keep things historically accurate. He clarified that the name of the film remains Jodhaa-Akbar, and not Akbar-Jodhaa as reported by sections of the media. Over 80 elephants, 100 horses and 55 camels were used in the movie. Name Of Main Titled “Azeem O Shan, Shahenshah”, the song featured about one thousand dancers in traditional costumes, wielding swords and shields at a grand location in Karjat. The budget of the film was initially Rs. 37 cr., which shot up to Rs. 40 crore. The film was supposed to be released in June–December 2007, but was delayed due to unknown issues.
The first television promo was aired on 9 December 2007.
The movie used much gold and kundan jewellery made by Tanishq, including 2 kg of gold for the sword case alone.

  Reception:-

    Box office:-

In North America, the film grossed $1.3 million in the first weekend and went on to gross $3,440,718 in its lifetime. The film had a slow start at the Indian box office. The movie netted Rs 24.75 crores in the first week with good word of mouth publicity, it went on to cross the coveted Rs 100 crore Nett milestone by the fourth weekend. The movie has been estimated to end its theatrical run in India with total business of 120 crores Nett, without being released in Rajasthan due to political unrest.

 Critical reception:-

The film received a critics rating of 69 on Metacritics, and Rotten Tomatoes has given the film a 78% rating with 7 fresh and 2 rotten reviews.
Anil Sinanan of The Times gave the film four out of five stars stating, "Oscar-nominated Lagaan director Ashutosh Gowariker’s sumptuous period epic has all the ingredients of a Cecil B. DeMille entertainer [...] The film ends with a passionate plea for tolerance of all religions in India, a resonant message for modern India." Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN also gave the film four out of five stars commenting: "I've never felt this way about any other film, but sitting there in my seat watching Jodhaa Akbar, I felt privileged as a moviegoer. Privileged that such a film had been made, and privileged that it had been made in our times so we can form our own opinions of the film rather than adopt the opinions of previous generations, which we invariably must when looking at older classics." Tajpal Rathore of the BBC gave the film four out of five stars, noting that, "although the 16th-century love story upon which its based might be long forgotten, this endearing treatment sears into the memory through sheer size and scale alone [...] Don't let the running time put you off watching this unashamedly epic tale."
Nikhat Kazmi of The Times of India gave the film three stars, stating that, "Jodhaa Akbar works only because its heart is in the right place. The film talks about a love that transcends all barriers -- gender, religion, culture -- and dreams of an India where secularism and tolerance are the twin towers that should never ever crumble. And Akbar and Jodhaa are the alluring exponents of this dream." Kazmi also suggests that "if you are willing to shed off all the trappings of history, only then will Jodhaa Akbar work for you." While suggesting that the film is "too long" and that it is "not a history lesson," Rachel Saltz of The New York Times also notes, "in choosing to tell the tale of this emperor and a Muslim-Hindu love story, Mr. Gowariker makes a clear point. As Akbar says, 'Respect for each other’s religion will enrich Hindustan.' " Khalid Mohammed of the Hindustan Times, gave the film 2 stars. He suggests that, "like it or not Ashutosh Gowariker, who is normally a fine and conscientious director, has miscalculated the technical logistics and emotional content of a period piece. Crucial detailing isn’t the virtue here."

Kites is a 2010 Bollywood film directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Rakesh Roshan, that stars Hrithik Roshan, Bárbara Mori, Kangana Ranaut, and Kabir Bedi. The film was released in India and in North America on May 21, 2010. Its 208-theater opening in North America made it the largest Bollywood release there to that time, It was also the first Bollywood movie to reach the weekend top ten, though My Name is Khan had a larger first-weekend North American gross. Despite a strong opening in India, it was eventually declared a flop

 Story:-
J (Hrithik Roshan) is a dance teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a sideline, he marries immigrant women to get them green cards. When Gina (Kangana Ranaut), the rich daughter of a powerful casino owner Bob (Kabir Bedi), falls for him, J goes along to marry into money. He discovers that his future brother-in-law, the vicious, homicidal Tony (Nick Brown), is about to marry a Mexican woman named Natasha (Bárbara Mori), whom J knows as Linda, the last of the immigrant women he married. On the night before "Natasha" and Tony's wedding, Linda and J spend a romantic but chaste night, humorously agreeing to a "divorce." A jealous, gun-wielding Tony arrives at her apartment while J is there. After he hits her, Linda impulsively knocks him out with a heavy object while he tussles with J. Linda and J go on the run toward Mexico, with Tony and police in pursuit. They are helped by a friend of J, Robin (Anand Tiwari). Robin gives them fake passports and IDs so that they can go wherever they want.

In the following week, J and Linda get married in Mexico. On the day of their wedding they come back to their house. There, Robin comes to give them the passports and is unexpectedly shot by Tony and his men. Linda and J escape, but J is shot in the process. In a car chase, Linda stops the car at a train, puts J aboard it, and drives off. Back to the present, J meets with Jamaal, one of Bob's employees, and is ambushed. Jamaal is killed but not before telling J of Linda's whereabouts. J kills off all of Tony's men and then beats Tony by smashing his face into the car door, until he is shot by Gina. He drives off to the location where Jamaal said Linda was last seen. It is shown that after J was put aboard the train, Linda was ambushed on a cliff and sent J a text message saying "I'm going...Sorry, Forget me". She drives off of the cliff, killing herself by drowning. J cries and then smiles, jumping off the cliff as well. Finally, he is reunited with Linda under the ocean, and they embrace through death.

To help the promote the film, mini "music videos" were released online, each about one minute long and featuring a song from the soundtrack set against scenes from the film. A photo shoot regarding this campaign was shot in the Maldives featuring Hrithik Roshan and Bárbara Mori.

In addition to its original subtitled version, Kites was scheduled to be released in a second international English version as Kites:The Remix, "presented by" Brett Ratner and recut by his regular editor, Mark Helfrich, with new music by Graeme Revell.

 Box office:-

Box Office India said the film "opened to a bumper response at most places" in India, but noted "reports are not encouraging, the biggest reason being the film has a lot of English and Spanish dialogue."
On its first weekend in the North America, the film opened in 208 theaters and ranked #10 in the box office, grossing $958,673. It was the first Bollywood movie to reach the weekend top ten, though My Name is Khan had a larger first-weekend North American gross, with $1.9 million at 120 theaters, reaching #13. Kites debuted at #5 in the UK, with an opening of £274,000 from 70 screens. Overall the film was rated as a flop by Box Office India, and in media outlets.

 Critical reception:-

The film received an 82% positive rating on the film critics aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus being, "Thoroughly overwrought in true Bollywood fashion, Kites is deeply flawed —and too effervescently charming to resist." The movie generally received negative reviews in India. It rated 5/10 on the primarily Hindi film critics aggregate site ReviewGang. The chemistry of the lead actors and the cinematography were specifically praised by Indian critics Anupama Chopra and Raja Sen. Rajeev Masand of IBN said "Thrilling action set-pieces, a super-fluid dance number to show off Hrithik's killer moves, and repeated glimpses at the toned bodies of both lead stars. It's almost enough to forgive the uniformly bad acting of all supporting cast". Anupama Chopra of NDTV said "the film doesn’t become more than the sum of its parts because the second half is flat and in places, outright foolish". Noyon Jyoti Parasara of AOL India stated, "It fails in the primary promise of a love story which surpasses language barriers," while Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express calls it "really old wine in a sort-of new bottle".

In the U.S., Jeannette Catsoulis of The New York Times called it "a lovers-on-the-lam blast of pure pulp escapism" that "caroms from car chase to shootout, from rain dancing to bank robbing with unflagging energy. It's all completely loony, but the stunts are impressive, the photography crisp and the leads so adorably besotted that audiences might as well check their cynicism at the door. Frank Lovece of Film Journal International said, "Bollywood enters telenovela territory in a hybrid film that takes the heightened emotions, wild tonal ranges and impeccably crisp technique of modern Hindi cinema and puts all that in the service of a tragic love story straight out of Mexican TV. ... As an old-style Hollywood romance in modern dress, it delivers what people say they want when they say, 'They don't make pictures like that anymore.'" Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times said the film "draws from westerns, musicals, film noir [and] chase thrillers with stunts so preposterous they verge on parody — and it gets away with everything because of [director] Basu's visual bravura and unstinting passion and energy."

  Story:-

The story is set in Goa, home to one of the most accomplished magicians of the time - Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan). As fate would have had it, Ethan is severely injured when his former best friend Yaseer Siddiqui (Ash Chandler), who was also a magician betrays him by ruining one of his dangerous magic trick, causing him to become quadriplegic. Now in a wheelchair, Ethan's willpower only gets stronger and stronger. He becomes the Radio Jockey of an FM Station called Radio Zindagi. His show spreads magic and hope and laughter through his irrepressible wit and humor to every listener and caller, making it difficult to imagine that this is a man who has been living with a spinal injury for the last fourteen years of his life. Sofia D'Souza (Aishwarya Rai), is his elegant nurse who has been accompanying him like a shadow for the past twelve years, leaving her domineering husband. Ethan and Sofia share a beautiful bond of love.

However, on the fourteenth anniversary of his accident, Ethan decides to take matters into his own hands and files an appeal to the court for euthanasia (mercy killing). This leaves Sofia in an impasse that challenges their relationship and their love. Ethan takes the help of his best friend and lawyer Devyani Dutta (Shernaz Patel) to support his appeal. Devyani initially hesitates, but later understands Ethan's appeal and agrees to his reasoning and decides to support him in his cause, as a result of which she is sensed as being callous by others. Surprising everyone with her stance, Ethan's mother Isabel Mascarenhas (Nafisa Ali) also supports him in his petition, backing her son's demand. Though Ethan is consistently persuaded by his physician Dr. Nayak (Suhel Seth), a neurologist, to retract his case, he finally relents to Ethan's appeal when he realizes that the friend in him is much stronger than the medic.

Alongside all the confusions, a young man named Omar Siddiqui (Aditya Roy Kapoor) enters Ethan's life with the sole aim of learning magic from this man whom he considers to be the greatest of magicians. Omar is earnest and driven by a passion to learn magic, hyper-kinetic, quicksilver in his actions - an antithesis to Ethan's inertness. Impressed by his love for magic, Ethan agrees to pass on his legacy to Omar even as he fights tooth and nail to demand the most basic right to his own life. The ethics, the morality, the cruelty and the kindness of Ethan's mission causes everyone to be struck by a whirlwind of emotions scaling from rage to sorrow.

Judge Rajhansmoni (Vijay Crishna) dismisses the case immediately when the case is presented in the court. Devyani asks Ethan to garner public support through a vote on the issue through his radio programme, which Ethan christens "Project Euthanasia." The scenario takes an unexpected turn when though many of his audience vote against his decision, Estella Francis (Monikangana Dutta) his former assistant and girlfriend and now a wife and a mother with work of her own, becomes the first person to vote in favour of Ethan as she understands his situation.

The issue comes into the limelight through news features in the television media and other public discussions. An appeal is once again submitted to the court and court proceedings start regarding the mercy killing petition by Ethan, which involves interrogation of Ethan's mother Isabel and close friends. The days become harder for Ethan as his mother passes away and Sofia is dragged away by her alcoholic husband, Neville D'Souza (Makarand Deshpande) against whom she had filed a divorce case and he longs for her love. It is also revealed that Omar is the son of Yaseer.

Finally the day of verdict comes and Ethan's plea is rejected by the court, citing the legal code of the country cannot be violated in any circumstance. A disheartened Ethan spends his time alone in his empty home when Sofia returns. She confesses to Ethan that she got the divorce and tells him that she will help with his mercy-killing, whatever the consequences be as Ethan means more to her. On hearing her words, Ethan realizes how much Sofia loves him. He proposes to her, after Sofia agrees, they embrace each other and swear that no one could separate them till death...

Ethan throws a farewell party for their friends and guests, where Ethan speaks about everyone who has meant very dear to him and finally tells everyone about his and Sofia's love. Everyone is surprised and overjoyed as they knew of their love. Ethan asks Sofia to walk to him as his wife, not a servant. Sofia, heartbroken, walks to him and kisses him, for the first and last time and hugs him lovingly. Ethan says that he will be dying a happy man with no regrets and the heart full of Sofia's love and bids all goodbye. At these words, all the guests, come to his couch and hug him, and the shot closes on Ethan laughing heartily.

 Development:-

After completing Saawariya, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had decided to focus more on his SLB Film production house. Chenab Gandhi starring Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and John Abraham was being talked about in the industry. Meanwhile, he was also focusing on his sister Bela Sehgal's directorial venture, earlier titled, Hadippa. A few news reports suggested that Bhansali had confirmed his next project - a young love story called Hamari Jaan Ho Tum, starring Udit Narayan's son Aditya Narayan and Mahesh Bhatt's daughter. He had denied the rumors stating he was not into any such project.

Other reports stated he had begun working on a film called Heera Mandi. Bhansali had got two male actors and one female actress flown in from Pakistan to train them in acting. But with the death of Begum Para, one of his actors in Saawariya, who was also supposed to star in Heera Mandi, the crew had ran into casting problems. So Bhansali started working on an untitled film starring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan.

Later Bhansali himself cleared the air in an interview that, though he had met a Pakistani actor called Imran Abbas on the insistence of the writer of Heera Mandi, Moin Beg, at around the end of 2007, he had realised that the actor did not fit Bhansali's needs. But he did confirm that he would definitely make Heera Mandi much later and when it happened he would think of the casting.

Bhansali first told media about his next directorial venture, when he gave an interview to the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS). In the interview he said that he had decided to call his film, Guzaarish, which is set to be shot in Goa. Bhansali stated that Guzaarish is his tribute to the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar; "I learnt direction from her voice. ‘Guzaarish’ is my tribute to Lata-ji’s artistry,” Bhansali told IANS. He added that the screenplay of the movie is also inspired by Lata’s passion for excellence.[ He said that Lata's songs and their lyrics had been used "...to fuel the intense love story. For instance, the song Hai tere saath meri wafaa, main nahin to kya? forms an important part of the film..."

When queried on why he chose a topic which explored the life of a quadriplegic, the filmmaker said he likes taking up subjects that are closer to life and not very much talked about. He added that the movie makes one "...aware about the beauty of life and what we have and how we should cherish what we have.. I have learnt so much about living a good life, of becoming a better human being and of evolving as a person".
Later in an interview Sanjay Leela Bhansali opened up and said that "I've lived the pain of facing the isolation of failure after Saawariya. it was the toughest time of my life. Suddenly everyone disappeared, and that included the people who had worked with me on Saawariya for two years. Because of the suffering I began to get seriously interested in the subject of mercy killing. I began to read up as much as possible on the subject. My research showed that mercy killing was prohibited by law in many countries including India . Almost a year of studying the super-sensitive subject, I concluded that every human being should have the right to die with dignity. The pain and suffering and the dignity with which I bore them prompted me to make a film on mercy killing."

 Casting:-

Bhansali was on the lookout for a mature couple for the portrayal of his lead roles in Guzaarish. His admiration for his muse Aishwarya Rai was a very well known fact. After watching her films Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar, both of which had starred both herself and Hrithik Roshan, Bhansali decided that the pair exuded a dignity and elegance much needed for his film. He also told IANS that Hrithik and Aishwarya have been chosen to play the passionate lovers in 'Guzaarish' because to Bhansali, they epitomized the physical and spiritual beauty of Lata Mangeshkar's voice."

When the stars had been signed on, Hrithik Roshan was filming for the film Kites, while Aishwarya Rai was shooting in Kerala for the bilingual Raavan/Raavanan. As a result, though Bhansali wanted to start the shooting of the movie by early 2009, the start got delayed since the lead actor suggested postponing the film until he wrapped up his home production Kites." He added that the project was "..definitely going into a different territory, in more ways than one,” hinting at a unique shooting location. Later, sources from the movie said that bulk dates of the two actors had been taken and for the following four months, the film would be shot in Mumbai and two other outdoor locations, which were not disclosed then. It was reported that Roshan would start shooting from July 2009.

For her part, Aishwarya Rai said that both Bhansali and herself had evolved together and were both similar — totally driven and passionate. She stated that the director ".. was so excited when he found the right script for us to work together in". She had similar views about her co-star Hrithik Roshan with whom, she said, she shared an amazing rapport.

Hrithik Roshan said in an interview that Bhansali’s film is the only film "....that I’ve accepted after Kites. I just jumped at it. We’re both very passionate film persons. Though there’s one other script that I’m looking at, nothing touched my soul except Bhansali’s script.”

Apart from the two big stars, Bhansali had also signed model Monikangana Dutta to play Hrithik’s former love interest in the film. Sources had revealed then that Dutta would be playing the role of Hrithik's estranged lover. It was announced that Dutta had been signed for a two-movie deal and that "...Guzaarish would be the first and the second might be a solo launch for her. Monika is obviously very excited about bagging the role. She is not allowed to make many public appearances and remains discreet about the film deal...” Bhansali was very tight-lipped when asked about Dutta and gave a very brief response saying that her role was pivotal to the film.

During the music release of Guzaarish, it was revealed that Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai were the first choices of the director. Though Rai had agreed to the script without even reading it, Roshan was all set to say no to Sanjay's next. According to Hrithik Roshan "... five minutes into the story narration, I knew that I just couldn’t say no". Hrithik felt that though he had "..played superheroes before. But I feel my character in 'Guzaarish' is the biggest superhero. I learnt how to live life after playing this role. This film will make you smile and give you courage".

Bhansali said that he had always wanted to work together with Roshan for a very long time as he was impressed by his sincerity as an actor. He added that the script of Guzaarish gave him the right opportunity to sign him. About the leading lady, Aishwarya Rai, he said that the role suited her to perfection and though she would have accepted his offer, it was important for an actor to be convinced of what he or she is doing.

Bhansali stated that if any of the leading cast had refused to sign, he wouldn't have made Guzaarish. According to him "..the film was only possible if Hrithik and Aishwarya had acted in it".

Amita Sehgal, Casting Director, roped in other actors including Shernaz Patel who was last seen in Bhansali's Black as Michelle McNally's mother, Catherine McNally. Vijay Crishna who was seen in Devdas as the authoritarian father made a comeback in Bhansali's cast ensemble. There were rumors initially that Suhel Seth who was last seen in Pooja Bhatt's Rog had been engaged to play Hrithik's doctor, which were later confirmed. Further, inclusion of Nafisa Ali cemented Bhansali's penchant for picking up his cast from off the beaten track.

Another inclusion was Aditya Roy Kapoor, brother of UTV Executive Producer, Siddharth Roy Kapur, who also was working simultaneously in another of Aishwarya Rai's films, Action Replayy.

It was reported that yesteryear actor couple Dharmendra and Hema Malini's younger daughter Ahana Deol and Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab's son, Sooraj Pancholi served Bhansali as Assistant Directors (AD) on the sets of Guzaarish. While Sooraj Pancholi did work as an Assistant Director for the first 2 schedules, Ahana Deol never worked as an AD.

Theater actor Makrand Deshpande was recruited to play an important three-minute cameo in the film on Hrithik Roshan's suggestion.

Dileep Subramaniam is the sound designer of the film. He has years of experience as sound designer in films like 'My Name is Khan' and currently on floor Imtiaz Ali's 'Rockstar'. That film won best film on the ZigZag awards.

  Pre-production works:-

Before starting the filming of Guzaarish, Bhansali visited Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan for seeking blessings. Bhansali also met the singing legend Lata Mangeshkar, whom he had revealed to be the source of inspiration to him, to seek her blessings before he fully embarked on filming Guzaarish.

During the meeting, Mangeshkar told that she was a big fan of Bhansali’s films and that she was fortunate to be the source of inspiration behind such a talented director’s film. She told the media members that “..Even I had heard that he makes his singers hear my songs over and over again before making them sing. I’ve always been a big fan of Sanjay’s films, specially Black. I remember watching the Filmfare Awards in the year of Black. Every time the nominations were announced I prayed for Black to win. And it did. If I’m a source of inspiration to him then I count myself fortunate”.

Bhansali candidly admitted that he was very much afraid of meeting Lata since "..one doesn't hobnob with one's god". He added that once he reached her home, he "... just wanted to sit and gaze at her. I realised in person she’s as magical as she is in her singing. There’s something other-worldly about her, a quality I haven’t encountered in anyone else in my life”.

Like all his other films, Bhansali preferred shooting at a studio. Bhansali says, "I like to construct sets and then light it up. It is a part of my story telling. My story needs a setting and I like to create that ambiance." Hence he chose Filmcity, Mumbai to shoot the movie.

Before the actual filming started, Hrithik Roshan spent time with a lot of patients to understand his role better and get into the skin of his character. He revealed that he used to “.. spend six hours with the patients, initially once a week and then once a month. I used to go to understand what they go through, what they think, what their needs are. They have taught me a lot of things. So if I have benefited from this experience so much, I am sure that when people see the film and understand the character, they will get a lot to learn”.

Since Roshan's character was a paraplegic, Bhansali wanted to give him a natural look. Hence he was instructed by the director not to indulge in his regular workouts since he cannot look fit and trim in the film. He was also asked by the director to spot an original beard unlike the artificial one in his previous film, Kites, so as to give touches of authenticity to his character.
The movie is set in Goa, and hence, Bhansali wanted to give a Portuguese touch to his frames. Sumit Basu, the Art Director, created Ethan's House in Mehboob Studio with a very Spanish/Portuguese flavour and the auditorium for magic acts, the court room, Martin's Bar in Yash Raj Studio. Also keeping in mind the costumes Bhansali hired Sabhyasachi Mukerjee as the costume designer, who had worked Bhansali in Black. Mukherjee had earlier worked in the film Raavan with Aishwarya Rai the same year.

  Filming:-

The film's shooting started on 29 July 2009 at Mehboob Studio, Mumbai. It was announced that the first schedule would be shot in July and August to capture the monsoon melody and romance of the place. It is notable that Bhansali came back to Goa after his first film, Khamoshi: The Musical for filming a movie. During the first day of shooting, he made sure that his mother was present on the sets. Sources revealed that his mother was his reason for making films and ".. it is imperative that she be present." Hrithik Roshan joined the crew on 22 July. Aishwarya Rai joined the crew during the initial part of August after wrapping up the shoot for Raavan / Raavanan . A specially made to order remote-controlled modernized wheelchair was used in the movie for the role of Ethan Mascarenhas.

The next outdoor session of the film was done in Panjim. The lead actors had stayed at the Taj, Goa. During the day shoot at Divar, the unit's base camp was at an Englishman Jan Bostock's home in Divar island, just off Panjim for 4–5 days. Apparently, the film-maker, who is known for his hot-tempered nature, threw away the continuity sheets of one of the scenes being shot while shooting in the outskirts of Goa when one of his assistant directors made the same mistake twice.

Hrithik Roshan sang a Hindi song in the film, after attempting playback singing in his previous movie Kites, in which he had rendered an English song. Bhansali himself personally trained Roshan for the song. Though the director had got the track recorded by another singer so that shooting in Goa could go on uninterrupted, in case Roshan could not complete his recording, his version was finally recorded after four or five takes. Roshan later said in an interview that "Bhansali was really surprised on hearing it."

During the filming of the movie, Bhansali also choreographed some of the songs. He used to dance on the sets of Guzaarish at times to make the moves clear to his actors. Many times he broke into a dance himself to convey the steps that he had in mind. This took most of his crew by surprise.

Pony Verma, who was the choreographer for most of the songs in the film, revealed that as soon as Bhansali conceived a song, he would send it to her and then sing it to her as well. During the shooting of the song, a singer and a guitarist were on the sets. The choreography took place to the accompaniment of live guitar strings and song. According to Verma, this novel way of functioning had enhanced the appeal of the song. She added that when "... the song is playing live, you pick up a lot of nuances on the spot, which really helps the song". Verma was in full praises for Bhansali who gave her complete freedom over the choreography; she also acknowledged the efforts put in by the lead actress Aishwarya Rai, with whom she had frequent discussion about the feel of the song.

The third schedule of the film began on 30 October 2009. The grueling schedule lasted till January 2010, at the city's Mehboob Studios. Rumours had it that during the filming of the movie, Bhansali and Roshan got into a tiff over the excessive use of English in the movie. Roshan, whose previous film Kites was also blamed for having non-Hindi dialogues, did not want to take a risk and lessen Guzaarish's appeal. Though there were no comments from either of them, it was learned that the issue was finally sorted out. Bhansali himself put all speculation to rest saying that ".. we (Hrithik Roshan and himself) were actually singing along quite happily." Later, towards the completion of the film, both the director and the producers, who realized the need to give the film a mass appeal, reworked certain dialogues in English, which were then dubbed in Hindi.

The final schedule of the movie was shot in Yashraj Studios from 21 February 2010. Bhansali found that on the other sets where he had shot the film, he was being frequently disturbed by guests, which prevented him from providing the full concentration which the movie demanded. According to the crew "..Yash Raj Studios was not only classy and had all the facilities but it also doesn’t allow guests to come in." Taking these factors into consideration Bhansali decided to bury the hatchet with Aditya Chopra over a film title and started shooting in the studios. The schedule included a spontaneous dance song with Aishwarya Rai, choreographed by Bhansali himself.

The song "Udi" was pictured during this session which was choreographed by Longinus Fernandes, whom Bhansali had judged in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, a popular dance based reality show. Fernandes was already known for his works in Slumdog Millionaire and Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. According to him Bhansali "..wanted to make the song different and unique. I asked him if we can add a little bit of Spanish to it and give it a raw, earthy feel. He liked the idea, so we gave the whole dance a very rustic look in order to make it look as natural as possible". The choreographer added that the dance sequence was very distinct in that the audience had never seen Rai doing such steps. He went gaga over the lead actress saying that she danced like a dream. Longinus said in an interview that it ".. did not take her long to learn the dance but it did take her some time to perfect it and to get into the mood of the character”. In an interview Sanjay Leela Bhansali said that in the song Udi, "..with such few words Sofia manages to say so much. It was my tribute to Waheeda Rahman’s character in Guide."In a sequence from the film, Ethan explains Omar, that the first magic he had performed was for his mother. Bhansali said that it is inspired from his childhood days. He said, "I remember my grandmother selling off the last of her silver and storing chillar in large Johnson baby powder tin. Every afternoon she would count that money and put it back. That kurr-kurr of the coins being bought out, counted and put back had to be heard again. The value of those coins doesn’t exist anymore but it was an important part of my growing up.”

Since Roshan's character, Ethan, plays a magician in the initial portion of the film, a Ukrainian magician was hired for teaching him magic tricks, after a long search for a professional magician. The magic stunts performed by Roshan and Monikangana Dutta formed the major portion of the film shot in the last schedule.

Among the many stunts shot there was a particular sequence in which Roshan had to dance using a large transparent ball as a property. The actor said that he had trained the hardest to practice spin in one of the dance sequence. Roshan said, "I trained for a month. It was not a long piece of dance but there was lot of jazz ballet where I was required to spin as there is a ball in my hand and I am playing with it as well as dancing. None of my songs up till now have spin because I am very bad at it."

The cinematographer of the movie Sudeep Chatterjee was asked to interpret the script completely so that Bhansali could understand his perception too. Praising his director to be very open and cooperative Chatterjee acknowledged in an interview about Bhansali's penchant for closed spaces. He said that his main challenge was to make the scenes look different though the protagonist is locked in a single room. To make these differences the lighting was adjusted such that one sees the room in twilight, at night, during the day, in early morning. The camera was made always mobile to counter Ethan's stillness. Slightly mobile things were deliberately kept always around Ethan like a fluttering curtain, a fish bowl near Ethan's head which according to the cinematographer mocked at his stillness all the time.

To enhance the intensity between his characters, Bhansali wanted a correctly intense reference point for Hrithik and Aishwarya's feelings and conversations. Bhansali said that he thought the sentiment of thwarted passion and smothered intensity of star-crossed lovers in Romeo & Juliet expressed his protagonists' inexpressible feelings very well. Hence he included dialogues from Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet in Guzaarish. Bhansali insisted on Zeffirelli's version since to him "..his work is the ultimate tribute to Shakespeare's love story. So many times, I've wanted to do my own version of Romeo & Juliet. But one look at Zeffirelli's film makes me feel I can never equal his beauty grandeur harmony and principal casting." Though it was difficult to obtain permission to use the materials, an adamant Bhansali accomplished the feat. He said," This was my only chance to pay homage to one of my all-time favourite screen romances."

When asked about the preparation she did for the film, actor Aishwarya Rai said in an interview that both herself and the director Bhansali ".. just like to walk randomly around the sets and “feel”. Sometimes I sit quietly and gaze into space or the ground and he captures all that. In fact, the poster picture with me looking away was taken like that. I was looking at the ground, lost in deep thought and he clicked it and told me that he was putting it on his poster. He knows when I am ready to do a scene, when I am in character, and the like. For instance, I delayed going on the set by two days and he did not say anything. He called me on the set and said we would start shooting in five days. On the second day, I tried hair, make-up, and costume. He told me I was ready to give my first shot and indeed, I was."
About the script Bhansali said that he had worked on the script for 18 months and says, “My film is mainstream in terms of budgets, cast and audience and I had to make sure that I did not hurt anyone but evoked a debate.” He points out that without star-clout, such themes will not make any impact on the audience or society. “And at least till my screenplay reaches the interval point, I do not start casting my actors.”

  Styling:-

The costume designer of the movie Sabyasachi Mukherjee said that there was a layering that one can see in the costumes. He said ".. it is the same subtle nuances you can see in the subdued colour palette. Sanjay understands and appreciates my aesthetics and it’s never a struggle for me to explain myself to him or anyone else in the cast and crew. I think 90 per cent of the battle is won when the director agrees to something and then all the actors succumb. Sanjay is so visually sound that people don’t question him." On the look of Ethan Mascarenhas, Mukherjee said that the make up and costume was more organic. In a particular scene Hrithik Roshan wears rose-tinted glasses. Mukherjee said that "the glasses were dark humour, that a guy who has nothing to look forward to is wearing rose-tinted glasses". On a lighter note he added that he wanted his hero to look like Clark Kent and not James bond.

Aishwarya Rai's character Sophia D'Souza goes through a bad marriage. The costume designer said that according to him " ..her internal suffering has manifested itself into an over-dressing syndrome. People who are depressed tend to either over-eat or overdress! Aishwarya wears the strangest of clothes. She has such a morbid life that she almost derives comfort from her clothes. She understands the meaning of dressing up for a bedridden person and it is her colours that bring humour to the patient’s life." The entire look of Aishwarya Rai consisted of thirty-seven long frocks, four dumpy shoes, maxis, aprons with motifs of cutlery, quirky glasses and jewellery, surreal hairdos and red lips. The character, who even makes her water bottle wear a jacket that she has made herself, may be conceived to be a seamstress, who makes dresses for herself, since Rai's costumes are uncommon says Mukherjee. He adds that Sophia uses her red lips as a weapon and not as an accessory. About Sofia's costumes, Bhansali said that " "It's an expression of her grief. She's a woman who has dedicated her entire life to this suffering man. And she wears that red lipstick so that when he faces her, he sees life in all its colour."

Sabyasachi Mukherjee also made a debut in jewellery line with Guzaarish. He had designed the line keeping in mind a multicultural element with a nomadic vibe. The navratan necklace worn by Aishwarya Rai in the climax of the film and other items like raindrop earrings, coral kanpashas, rhodolite balis, butterfly earrings, minakari bird ring and the turquoise and coral ring that she wears in the film have been designed by him. Mukherjee said that "When Sanjay Leela Bansali approached me for 'Guzaarish', I realised that jewellery would play a very important role in shaping up Sophia's character as played by Aishwarya Rai. It would have to be nomadic, quirky and personalised and so I decided to bring on board GAJA in SABYASACHI (his label) because it epitomises that spirit. The whole line has been designed by me keeping in mind a multicultural element with a nomadic vibe." For the collection, Sabyasachi used precious and semi-precious stones, minakari and filigree and had to work with about 60 skilled workers from West Bengal to complete the line. The price range of rings and earrings starts from Rs.40,000 and navratan necklaces are priced at Rs.510,000.
The other characters also were specially treated. Omar Siddiqui played by Aditya Roy Kapoor was styled like a struggling French musician. " His clothes are layered, he wears a crumpled tuxedo with flappy trousers and because he doesn’t have money for shoes, he wears flip-flops.", said Mukherjee. Suhel Seth, who plays Ethan's doctor, is presented in stiff suits and Shernaz Patel, Ethan's lawyer is given a look of a Gandhian in cotton saris and three-quarter blouses. The maids are in dumpy dresses. The costume designer says that "..the clothes are nearly theatrical and they have a mind of their own. If you remove the characters and hang the clothes, they will tell a story. It’s like Neverland or the reality version of The Magic Faraway Tree! "

   Digital Intermediate and VFX Works:-

The DI and VFX for Guzaarish was done by Prime Focus, a global Visual Entertainment Services group, who had previously collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on many films including 'Black' and 'Saawariya'.

The look of the film was designed to move with the narrative. The first scene shows Sophia D'Souza waking up and taking care of Ethan, for which the shafts of light have been enhanced and colors desaturated but the skin tones maintained. From the skies, to the wall colouring, every part of the movie has been enhanced in some way. The VFX team was throughout in the sets right from when the film was being shot.

The shots which involve visual effects are listed below.

  • The enormous grand house that appears throughout the movie was a CGI creation to replace the church that was actually at the shoot location in Goa.
  • The much talked about opening shot in which Hrithik Roshan is sitting on a wheelchair and trying to flick a fly off of his nose a lot of referencing was done by the artists to understand the behavioral patterns of a fly, such as the way it moves and to get details of the texture, look and feel, movement, the flutter of the wings etc. The detailing went to the extent of casting the shadow of the fly when it sits on Hrithik's nose.
  • In the sequences when Shernaz Patel is talking on the phone standing by the porch and the one when Aishwarya is travelling back home in a boat sky was digitally recreated.
  • Hrithik's enacting of a ballet sequence with a transparent ball was originally shot with a real ball. However some needed to have a CG ball when it was impractical to execute the shot with a real one. In between the sequence, Hrithik lies on the ball to take a 360 degree turn. This was originally shot with a green cubical turntable to give Hrithik the necessary support to do the act and the table had to be replaced with the transparent ball.
  • The candle tricks in the film is modified to show as if the flame detaches from the wick and keeps floating up in the air, as does Hrithik, who joins the flame back to the wick.
  • In one of the flash-back scenes, a young Hrithik goes to cheer up his mother Isabel up and ends up doing magic for the first time. As his mother shakes him lovingly, CG coins start falling from his coat and hair.
  • In another scene Hrithik, in a wheelchair, is teaching Omar the trick of rubbing his hands together and generating flying bits of soaked paper. The flying bits of paper were created in CG.
  • The Magic Box Trick involving Estella and Ethan has been modified by creating a 3D replica of Monikangana's face and then animating the face with blinking eyes and a smile inside the box.
  • Other shots like creating CG rain, creeper and wall cleanups, creating a lamppost with moths and flies and many more hidden VFX were also done by the artists.

   Promotion and publicity:-

Roshan and Rai at the promotion of the film

The first look of the film was supposed to be released along with Dharma Productions' We Are Family on 3 September. Later the trailer was withdrawn from We Are Family. The official reason given for the postponement of the trailer was the time factor as the producers felt that there was a lot of time before the release of Guzaarish, and hence it was decided Guzaarish's first promotional trailer would feature in theaters a month later with Siddharth Anand’s Anjaana Anjaani. However the real story was that there were some concerns over a sequence showing Aishwarya Rai puffing away frantically at a cigarette in the trailer. While smoking is not entirely prohibited in Indian films, it is certainly seen to be injurious to health, especially since the one smoking on screen is a global icon playing a nurse. Sources close to the film revealed, “Aishwarya is not really smoking in Guzaarish. It’s a very cute, funny and a very beautiful sequence where she is trying to smoke when she doesn’t know how to." Irrespective of the context it had been decided that the release date of the first trailer would be postponed.

Owing to the Ayodhya verdict, the release of Anjaana Anjaani was also postponed to 1 October, which saw the release of another Aishwarya Rai film Enthiran - The Robot. Hence Bhansali decided to have a separate promotional trailer launch on 23 September 2010 at Cinemax, Mumbai. Bhansali acted really tough and rejected as many as 200 designs before settling down for the final one. The first viewing opened to positive responses. The 1 minute, 48 seconds long trailer focused entirely on Hrithik and Aishwarya and was sans dialogue. The trailer was described by the critics as ".. delightful visuals, exhilarating background score, elaborate costumes, and understated but intense emotions - the promo has a signature Bhansali look and feel. It reminds you of Black, it reminds you of Saawariya. Faridoon Shahryar, Content Head Bollywood Hungama website, opined that the first look was ".. sheer poetry, amalgamation of mesmeric music, metaphorical imagery, a tinge of humour, a larger than life settings, and loads of pathos". Alongside the release of the promotional trailer, posters and downloadable background materials were also spread officially through the internet.

During the "presser", attended by Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Ronnie Screwvala, Aditya Roy Kapur, Monikangana Dutta, Shernaz Patel, other cast and crew of the movie and Bhansali himself, the director said ".. You go through so much in life, so many things about life are unspoken, hope and joy of living, and I thought it was important to make a film which dealt with a topic like this."

A nervous Bhansali, who had met the media after a long time, said he was very afraid of handling a mic after so long. He thanked UTV Chairman Ronnie Screwvala for his unrelenting support. Bhansali made headlines for the day when he said that Aishwarya Rai was ".. his muse, his jaan, and I get terribly excited when I make a film with her because she is very, very special. Some people are timeless and Aishwarya will be there for another 20 years". About the lead actor he said, "I have never enjoyed working with any other actor as much as I have enjoyed working with Hrithik, just for the kind of talent he has, for the kind of person he is". He also revealed the reason why he became the musical director of the movie, "The reason behind doing the music of the film is that I think I understand the characters and understand what they would express musically more than any other music director. Some deep thoughts are my concern, so whatever little music I knew, it was a sort of experiment. But I am happy with what I have done,".

Aishwarya Rai told the press that "This was a very special film for us. We are glad to share this special piece of work with you before we reveal it to the rest of the world." Hrithik Roshan shared with the press that it was ".. true that I have not done anything that has been life altering. This movie has changed my outlook towards work, changed my life. It is so beautiful that 30 years or 40 years from now, I’ll look back and smile I had the opportunity to make this film."

Hrithik Roshan elaborated on his character saying that he was ".. a super character in the film. I have interacted with about 20 such patients who suffer from complete paralysis of the lower half of the body, including both legs which is mostly caused by damage of the spinal cord. They are real life superheroes and I am representing their emotions on screen". Adding that he never had felt such responsibility towards any other character he had played to date, he told the media that the film did not take any stance on mercy-killing. Roshan said that he was able to identify with Ethan Mascarenhas because, when he was going through the Guzaarish script, he had been nursing a knee problem and doctors told him that the knee will never be okay. According to Roshan, the script "..energised me so much that I was not depressed about my knee problem anymore".

Further trailers of the song sequences Udi, Sau Gram Zindagi, Tera Zikr and separate "Making - of" videos of each songs were released subsequently through various online and television broadcasting outlets. Frequent interviews and pressers were conducted as a part of the promotional strategy.

    Controversies:-

A controversy regarding the film's plot originated when veteran Indian writer Dayanand Rajan claimed that the plot of the film was plagiarised from his unpublished novel Summer Snow. "Guzaarish has many similarities with my novel. It's shocking that the main plot, the love story, the hero being wheelchair-bound due to an accident and even the mercy killing are the same as in Sanjay's movie. I had shown my novel to some people in the industry but I have no idea who leaked it to the writer of the film," says Dayanand. The other similarities include a serious accident, in both the scripts, which require the protagonist to begin using a wheelchair and introduce him to the woman taking care of him — it is the nurse who falls in love with Hrithik, while in the novel it is his wife who looks after him. Both scripts having key flashback scenes and the woman supporting mercy killing for the hero. Raajan has dashed off a legal notice to the producers, UTV and SLB asking them for an explanation on how their film has so many similarities with his novel, however Bhansali's office refused to accept the notice.

In late-October, a public interest litigation was filed by Aditya Dewan, a lawyer, in Delhi High Court alleging that Guzaarish promotes euthanasia or mercy killing, which is illegal, and portrays the legal profession in bad light. He demanded a disclaimer from the producers saying mercy killing is not legal in India and that there is a debate on whether such deaths can be allowed. But the case was dismissed by the court saying the facts averred were inadequate for the court to appreciate and that it cannot be entertained in its present form. "PILs are loose too, for people with hidden agendas. The film is a love story of a man and his life and, yes, euthanasia is part of the narrative," said Screwala, the producer of the film.

Another controversy regarding the movie started brewing when the first look of the move was released which showed the lead actor Aishwarya Rai smoking in a car. National Organization for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) India, the body working for tobacco eradication, wrote to actor Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan expressing concern over use of her images smoking a cigarette in the banners of film Guzaarish displayed all over Mumbai. The organization's spokes-person said in a press release that it would issue a legal notice to the actor under the provisions of the anti-tobacco legislation for the alleged advertisement of tobacco smoking in the public. Later, the Raj Thackeray-led MNS also objected to the " 'insidious' effects of a cigarette smoking Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plastered across posters on BEST buses in the city."

Director Ram Gopal Verma in the social networking site Twitter, had posted "Just cannot stand the close up of Hritik's teeth being brushed by Aishwarya, anyday will watch Dhoom 2 ten times again, but then I am the maker of Aag " . Bhansali who was more annoyed and amused than angry commented, "I really have no time or patience with this sort of behavior. Ramu has always met me with much enthusiasm about my films in the past. So if he had an opinion on Guzaarish he should have shared it with me instead of putting it on Twitter. And by the way, doesn't he have a release coming up (Rakta Charitra)? He should just focus on that instead of worrying about the content of other people's films." Later Verma apologised to Bhansali saying " I'm sorry if I offended you. I just have this habit of constantly saying something funny on Twitter about every happening out there. Most of the comments are on me. I make more comments on my own films than anybody else's. I'll take back my remark publicly asap. Sorry again." SLB immediately chose to forgive and forgot and move on." He also raised several eyebrows when he added that "If anything so enamoured of hatred can be called a peace offering, then yes I'm releasing Rakht Charitra 2 on the same day (November 19) as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish." Later Raktha Charithra 2 's release date was postponed to 3 December owing to various factors.

After the film release in November, Akhil Rajendra Dwivedi, a script writer, sued Bhansali for Rs. 2 crore alleging that the director used his script without informing him. Dwivedi claimed that he had registered his script, very similar to that of Guzaarish, in 2005 and had even met Bhansali in 2008. He alleged that the director had loved the script and said that he would get back to Dwivedi in a few weeks time. Dwivedi claimed that Bhansali never reverted and was unreachable for Dwivedi.

Salman Khan, a close associate of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in an award ceremony Super Idols, for felicitating specially abled people, by television channel IBN-7, took potshots at Guzaarish, hinting at its poor box office collection and said that "Recently a movie released, Guzaarish, oops sorry! and I made a movie on HIV/ AIDS, not even a dog came to watch the movie." Later in the same event, he said to one of the winner of the awards, "I will give you the number of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, you write it down, he has made Black, Khamoshi, made many pictures and made heaps of money but may be it won't come out, but it should come out. The comments came as a shocker to many, since Salman was one of Bhansali's favorites and the lead actor in his first movie Khamoshi and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Bhansali reacted saying that “If such an old and trusted friend can be so insensitive I don’t want anything to do with the entertainment industry”. But the lead actor Hrithik Roshan was irked enough and said "It’s not heroic to laugh or make fun of a filmmaker just because his box office collections are not up there with yours. Guzaarish is a super success in its own way, because I know deep inside he only has love for me and this must have been just a momentary lapse of judgement. Will expect a big hug the next time I meet him "
The film's storyline is also similar to 2004 Spanish film The Sea Inside, which was based on a true story of a sailor Ramón Sampedro who becomes a quadriplegic following an accident.

 Special screening:-

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who had famously given a lavish premier of his earlier film Saawariya, decided to do away with a similar event for Guzaarish. Though the movie had released on 16 November in Dubai, it was slated to release in India on the 19th of the same month. Bhansali purposely avoided a gala screening of Guzaarish apparently due to the bitter experience he had in a similar event of Saawariya. Sources reported that "..some of the VVIP invitees who told him that he had made another masterpiece (Saawariya) were busy sending out bulk messages against the film during the premiere. Since the Saawariya premiere took place two nights (on Wednesday rather than Thursday) before its public release the damage done was irreparable. Sanjay decided there and then to never have a premiere of any of his films."

The director had the first screening of Guzaarish for the cast members and their families on Monday night. Though the lead actor Hrithik Roshan along with wife Sussanne Khan attended the special screening, Aishwarya Rai and her family were conspicuous by their absence. After the screening, the director allowed himself to be convinced to show the film to a few chosen ones.

Hence he specially handpicked 30 invitees include the Bachchan family, leading man Hrithik's parents Pinky and Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik Roshan's Father- in-law Sanjay Khan, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar, Deepika Padukone, Rohan Sippy, Karan Johar, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Goldie Bhel singer Kunal Ganjawala, film Maker Akbar Khan, fashion designers Sandip Khosla, Manish Malhothra, and Shahid Kapoor who was currently shooting for Pankaj Kapoor's Mausam. Bhansali told the media, "What is the sense of inviting people you know are not going to have anything good to say about your film? I am totally against a premiere. At the same time there are people I want to share the film with." According to Bhansali he already had got the "big thumbs-up" he needed, "For me, it was more than enough that my mother liked the film. All other opinions, I'll take with a pinch of salt."
Later, Aishwarya Rai also requested for a special screening of the movie for her family. According to Rai, this was a special gift to her father, who was celebrating his birthday on the same date. It was also attended by directors Subhash Ghai, David Dhawan, actors Shabana Azmi and Sonam Kapoor who was then shooting for the movies Players and Mausam."

      Reception:-

       Critical response:-

Guzaarish opened to most generally positive reviews. Filmfare gave the movie a four star rating stating "Guzaarish is unabashedly Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In a film where life itself is the villain everything is larger than life, no surprise there. The house is grand, the characters even more so, the laughter is magnificent, the pain operatic and the treatment of all of the above is colossal in a deafening, attention seeking way that leaves no room for subtext or imagination." Reuters trashed the movie for its over the top performances and stated that the lead actor Hrithik Roshan is the only saving grace of the movie where "everything else, like Aishwarya Rai’s make-up, seems fake and loud, and puts you off. The emotions, the set design, the dialogues, Hrithik Roshan’s beard are all out of this world, residing in some alien planet that only Bhansali inhabits." Rajeev Masand of CNN IBN gave it a two star rating explaining "Guzaarish may be less esoteric than his last film, Saawariya, but it's still an unsatisfying effort because the filmmaker continues to invest more in the appearance of every frame than in the emotional truth of his characters. Its various subplots inspired from different films, Guzaarish is a mash-up of many interesting ideas." He stated that the magic is missing in this one.

Anupama Chopra of NDTV gave a three star rating saying "This fantasy would be effective if the writing was more organic and the emotions felt more authentic but Bhansali never gives us a chance to invest in these people." She noted that the movie is a mix of as much clumsiness as that strong performances and scenes which moves the audience.[84] One of earliest reviews was published in Bollywood Hungama by critic Taran Adarsh who opined, "Bhansali has worked himself to the grind and his presence is felt in every frame of Guzaarish and that the movie is one of the most profound, insightful and enriching dramas of the year." The reviewer gave a four star rating to the movie praising the performances by the lead actors and the cinematography of the movie. On the lead actors Adarsh said "In fact, the two actors have gone through a drastic appearance change and both pressurize you to believe that they are indeed Ethan and Sofia." The MSN review received a three and a half rating from the users and praised the movie for the performances by the cast, the cinematography and its subtle approach to a sensitive issue. However the review did criticize the movie for the lack of a forceful script, and contrived scenes.

The Hindu reviewer Sudhish Kamath gave a negative review to the movie and heaped praises on the lead actor Hrithik Roshan saying that "Hrithik Roshan gives one of the best performances of his career as a man trapped in a wheelchair/bad film, desperately craving for freedom.." As a bottomline he said that Guzaarish is "Highly pretentious, boring film with leftover craving-for-your-sympathy melodrama from Black and unused sets from Saawariya". The Times of India, which gave a four and a half rating, mentioned that "Guzaarish is an unusual film in many respects". Sudeep Chatterjee, the cinematographer was praised for the "collage of riveting paintings on screen which showcased both the interior of the mansion and outsides of Goa like an art gallery". The review noted that "A film like Guzaarish isn't made for the box office. It's made for the gratification of the senses. And that it does, in ample measure." India Today reviewer Kaveree Bamzai gave a two star rating said that the movie is "spectacularly silly, pretentiously ponderous. The only thing worth the price of the ticket is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. This is one woman who is finally coming into her own. Whether it is her dancing to the Udi song or moaning in simulated ecstasy, she is lively, animated and pretty much stripped of the artifice we have associated her with forever."

The Pioneer gave six out of ten rating and noted "all fears are dispelled in the first 10 minutes of this finely made and delicately executed two-hour love emotion. With a taste for elegant grandeur and a keen eye on chic cinematography, Bhansali has lent Guzaarish a picture-perfect look which we hardly get to see in domestic cinema. Not to forget the theme of Quadriplegia which, too, has been dealt with sensitivity." Zee News gave the movie a positive review saying that "Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish is not a film but moving poetry that touches you in manifold ways. Guzaarish is the most extraordinary love story of Bollywood which unravels the patient-nurse bond through Ethan and Sophie. Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan light up the silver screen with their sizzling on-screen chemistry, which takes Guzaarish to an altogether different level." Mumbai Mirror gave a 5 star rating to the movie and noted that "the beauty of the film lies in its ability to throw light on a morbid subject, compelling the viewer to fall back in love with life." The review added that the audience would feel "a Hrithik hangover that stays with you long after you have left the theatre."

Hindustan Times reviewer Mayank Shankar gave it a three star rating and noted "this is a film where aesthetics overpower everything else. Being mesmerized by the beauty of the big screen isn’t always such a great thing. You get overwhelmed at first; leave slightly under-whelmed, eventually." Deccan Herald noted that only select - audience may find the movie appealing saying that "the performances stand out. Hrithik Roshan does brings some tears to your eyes and even Aishwarya comes up with an original act. But, as said, the blacks and greys of Guzaarish might appeal only to Bhansali viewers."

Deccan Chronicle gave a four star rating noting that Hrithik Roshan is a saving grace of the movie. The review said: "Guzaarish is an affected film with a contrived plot and a severe Jesus complex. It is obsessed with how it looks, walks and poses. But in this self-conscious world lives and breathes a class act — Hrithik Roshan. He creates an emotional core so powerful and compelling that the film’s flaws pale in his brilliance." The South African news paper The Sunday Times gave a nine star rating and said "Guzaarish is a movie about hope, magic and life. Bhansali has done it as a tribute to the nightingale Lata Mangeshkar who, he claims, has been his biggest inspiration. There are times that the pace may work in its favour, but its overall message and spirit will triumph, and it will be a memory that will linger on forever." Khaleej Times said "this wonderful work of art, nuanced and magical in its portrayal, is about dying. But Ethan, as played by Hrithik Roshan in Guzaarish, is so bemused by adversity that he can actually look at his own suffering with dispassionate humour."

The Telegraph cited that "Guzaarish is a Hrithik Roshan film, which salvages, to some extent, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. In motion, his on-stage moves are real magic. In suspended animation, he is able to channelise every emotion in the book through his eyes." However the Rediff review by noted critic Raja Sen criticized Bhansali for his "tireless attempt to once again bring old-world theatricality - in all its surreal opulence - to our silver screen" and gave two and a half rating. He added that "the Sanjay Leela Bhansali circus whirrs on, but to what avail? It's like an old Disney musical - just without the wit. Or, ironically given this film's subject, the magic. Here is a filmmaker who needs a playwright - and, in equal measure, an occasional slap on the wrist." Sify movies, which also gave a two and a half rating, said that Bhansali lives in a universe of his own cut of from the rest of the world. The review sharply criticizing Bhansali's style of movie making noted that "It’s a dry subject anyway, but co-producer-writer-director Bhansali makes sure it gets super-gloomy." Daily News and Analysis reviewer gave a three star rating and noted "Guzaarish is one of those films that are not meant to entertain so much as to shake you by the intensity of their content and the force of their performances. Bhansali deserves as much credit for the splendid direction as Sudeep Chatterjee for the breathtaking cinematography. The music, again by Bhansali, and the artistic visual imagery that the film evokes act as lifesavers when the screenplay gets a bit monotonous."

Komal Nahta, a freelance film critic, gave the movie one and a half stars stating that though the movie has power-packed performances, it will be rejected by masses and in towns and villages, owing to its class-appealing subject. He said "It has been made exceptionally beautifully and boasts of extraordinary performance by the main protagonist, Ethan. Not only is the drama soul-stirring and emotionally moving but the film is also visually extraordinary." Subhash K Jha also echoed similar thoughts as that of Adarsh, saying that "No film in living memory has brought out the sheer blessing of being alive with such spirit and glory". According to him the music score of the movie "communicate the rich tapestried emotions of lives that are determined to smile through an extraordinary tragedy". Amitabh Bachcha, veteran film actor, shared his views on Guzaarish in his blog and said that he was "dumbfounded and almost speechless" by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who "raises the bar by leaps and it becomes very difficult to keep up with him ". He specifically appreciated the performance of Aditya Roy Kapur, who according to him had been the "most fascinating watch."

Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) gave a 3 star rating in which Australian critic and columnist Simon Foster described it as a "A melodrama that never says in two words what it can say in ten, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish balances its blubbery sentimentality with some beautifully realised images to heart-warming and generally likable effect
Satish Kaushik stated "Aishwarya is unbeatable and looks beautiful on screen. And here was a tremendous performance that came straight from the heart. She moved on screen like a swan on lake. Guzaarish is sheer poetry and I just loved Aishwarya's performance in it. It was brave and radical on Hrithik's part to accept this role. Aishwarya and Hrithik's Last scene was the most heartbreaking. Hats off to him for putting his heart, mind and soul into creating Ethan."

   Box office:-

Guzaarish had an average opening at the box office, and collected a nett gross of 29 crores in its opening weekend. Due to the extremely well response and word-of-mouth the film received from critics as well as public, the film picked up much better in India, and grossed a full US$9.57 million throughout its theatrical run.

The soundtrack and the musical score have been composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself, who makes his debut as a music director with this film. The lyrics are penned by A.M. Turaz, Vibhu Puri, and the late Jagdish Joshi.
The official music launch of Guzaarish took place on 22 October 2010. The event was hosted by Aditya Roy Kapur. Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, who had received his Best Actor National Award a second time for Bhansali's movie Black, was the guest of honour for the event, which also saw Bhansali's mother, Leela Bhansali gracing the occasion. Abhishek Bachchan also attended the event to extend his support for his wife. Actors Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Shernaz Patel, Suhel Seth, Monikangana Dutta, UTV chairman Ronnie Screwvala and Bhansali himself along with the entire music and background team were present in the music launch.
When the album was released, Bhansali told the audience that he could never have got a better person to release his first album as a music director than Amitabh Bachchan. Overcome with emotions he touched Bachchan's feet to get his blessings to which Bachchan reciprocated warmly and said “I am glad that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made such a wonderful film with this issue which no one has seen to date”. Bhansali said, "I learnt music by listening to it over and over again. My association with R. D. Burman saab in Vidhu's (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) film and music composers such as Ismail Darbar and Monty (Sharma), helped me to learn a lot." He reiterated the reason why he scored the music for the movie but ruled out the rumor that he would be composing the music for all his forthcoming films.
Bhansali said in an interview after the music launch that, though he had no favorites, the song "Sau Gram Zindagi" was close to his heart. Spreading light on how Guzaarish occurred, he told that he had conceived the lines Bas Itni Si Guzaarish Hain, Yeh Jo Baarish Hain while shooting for the film Black in 2003.
Singers Shankar Mahadevan, KK, Kunal Ganjawala, Vibhavari Joshi, and Shail Hada, who had lent their voices to the film's soundtrack were also present at the event. The singers also gave a stage performance of each of their songs in the album. Bhansali along with the singers sang the song "Sau Gram Zindagi". He said that he dedicated the song to his mother since the lyrics represented her life in all ways. The highlight of the gala night was when the lead actors along with Bhansali sang the song, "Udi" to which the entire audience grooved happily.
During the music launch, Hrithik Roshan was lavish in his praises of Bhansali, saying that the director ".. is just pure genius, and that's exactly what he was as a music director as well. For most people Guzaarish is just another film, but its just like nature, you cannot possibly put into words this beautiful journey. It's beyond judgment for me." He also thanked Bhansali for making them a part of Guzaarish. Aishwarya Rai supported her director-friend saying "Sanjay is such a genius, anything he does he is the best at it. I'm just blessed and very grateful that I have gotten a chance to work with this genius three times in my career."
When queried on why he had not included his Devdas discovery Shreya Ghoshal in his first album, Sanjay Bhansali said “My songs have all come from the heart, nothing is calculated. Shreya has reached a pinnacle and her not singing in my film where no song needed her will not make a difference. I was only the zariya for her destiny,” He also said that "Shail Hada, my music assistant who had sung the title-song of Saawariya, was the best thing because through his seasoned vocals I could know exactly how the song would sound,”.
Vibhavari Apte-Joshi, who had sung the song Saiba, which appears during the climax of the movie, had been well received by the audience. The leading actress Aishwarya herself told her during the music launch function that she was happy to get Vibhavari’s beautiful voice for her in the film. Joshi responded saying “It is actually my pleasure that I could sing for the beautiful actress.” She was spotted by Bhansali while she was performing in a music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa - Aajcha Awaaj aired on a Marathi channel. About the song, Joshi said that, "It is a Konkani - Hindi song. The pronunciation was not that difficult for me as I had sung old Konkani songs in many of my shows. However, the experience of learning the song from Bhansali sir was amazing. He emphasised on expression and asked me to think of the character’s mindset as it had to suit the situation.”

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Hindi: ज़िन्दगी ना मिलेगी दोबारा, English: You don't get Life a Second Time  pronunciation ) is a 2011 Bollywood coming-of-age film, directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment. The film features an ensemble cast including Hrithik Roshan as Arjun, Abhay Deol as Kabir and Farhan Akhtar as Imraan. It also stars Katrina Kaif as Laila, Kalki Koechlin as Natasha, and Ariadna Cabrol as Nuria along with Naseeruddin Shah as Imraan's father. Initially expected to hit theatres on 27 May 2011, the release of the film was pushed back to 24 June, and once again to 15 July due to technical glitches in post-production. Made on a budget of INR55 crore (US$11 million), the film was shot in Spain, UK, India, Egypt and Morocco.
The story follows three friends, Arjun, Imraan and Kabir, who have been inseparable since their childhood. They set off to Spain on a bachelor trip and meet Laila, who falls in love with Arjun and helps him overcome his problem of workaholism. Kabir and his fiancée experience significant misunderstanding. After solving the problem, the three friends go to locations in the country where each friend chooses a sport for the group to attempt.
The music and score is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The film had a wide release in 1800 screens and was a critical and commercial success. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara grossed INR152 crore (US$30.4 million) worldwide and hence became the tenth highest grossing Bollywood film.

  Story:-
At the beginning of the film, Kabir (Abhay Deol) proposes to Natasha (Kalki Koechlin). Their families meet at the engagement party. At the party, Natasha learns that Kabir is planning a three-week bachelor road trip to Spain with his school friends Imraan (Farhan Akhtar) and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan). Kabir explains to her that the three have a long-standing pact, and that during the road trip, each of them will have to pick an adventure sport, which all three of them will try together. Initially, Arjun is reluctant to take part in the trip due to his workaholism and obsession with money. It is later revealed that Arjun's ex-girlfriend left him due to this reason. Imraan has an additional personal agenda on the trip—to find his biological father Salman Habib (Naseeruddin Shah), an artist in Spain.
The trio set off to Spain, where they plan to visit the Costa Brava, Seville, and Pamplona. On the way to Costa Brava, Imraan and Kabir find it annoying that Arjun works even during the trip and run into a misunderstanding, which ends up in a violent argument. After getting consoled and reaching their destination, they meet an American—Indian named Laila (Katrina Kaif) in a beach. Imraan flirts with her and makes Arjun jealous. Kabir reveals that he has chosen deep sea diving as their first sport, and they later find that Laila is their diving instructor. Arjun, who cannot swim and is aquaphobic, receives assistance from Laila. She helps him overcome his fears and he begins to fall in love with her. Upon a request by Laila, they attend the La Tomatina festival held in Buñol with her and meet Nuria (Ariadna Cabrol). Meanwhile, Natasha becomes suspicious of Kabir's involvement with Laila and crashes his bachelor party trip. Imraan spends time with Nuria, and Arjun with Laila. After the boys leave, Laila realises she has fallen in love with Arjun and chases them on a bike, until she catches up. She and Arjun express their feelings for each other with a passionate kiss.
Arjun, Imraan and Kabir visit Seville for sky diving, as per Arjun's choice. Imraan is forced to confront his acrophobia. After skydiving, the three men go to a bar and get into a fight with a stranger on whom they had tried to pull a prank. They are jailed after the fight. Salman, Imraan's father, bails them out and takes them to his home. While speaking to Imraan, Salman reveals that he never wanted the responsibility of a married life with kids, while Imraan's mother did, which is why he never contacted Imraan. Kabir admits to Arjun and Imraan that he is not ready for marriage, but is reluctant to call off the wedding for fear of breaking Natasha's heart.
The trio leave for the bull run at Pamplona. Imraan suggests they make a pact to keep their promises if they survive the event. Imraan vows to publish his poetry, Arjun vows to go to Morocco with Laila and settle with her, and Kabir vows to tell Natasha that he is not ready to marry. The friends gain a renewed sense of their relationships with each other, with others they know, and with themselves.
As the credits roll, Imraan, Kabir, Nuria and Natasha are shown attending the wedding of Arjun and Laila in Morocco, where it is revealed that Kabir and Natasha did not marry.

   Cast:-

  • Hrithik Roshan as Arjun, a financial trader based in London. His father died when he was 7 years old, leaving his mother a huge debt to settle. Hence, he is heavily influenced by money and plans to save a large amount of it before retiring at 40. He dreams of going to Seville for sky diving.
  • Abhay Deol as Kabir, a wealthy young man who works at his father's construction company in Mumbai. Kabir is engaged to Natasha and experiences a strain in his relationship during his road trip. He chooses to do deep sea diving in Costa Brava.
  • Farhan Akhtar as Imraan, a copy writer who works for an advertising firm in Delhi. He loves poetry and is secretly a poet. Imraan has never met his biological father Salman and goes to Spain to find him. He finishes the trip with the Bull run in Pamplona, along with the other two.
  • Katrina Kaif as Laila, a fashion student living in London who works as a diving instructor in Spain during her vacations. Her father is an Indian while her mother is an American. Natasha doesn't take too kindly to her flirting attitude with Kabir.
  • Kalki Koechlin as Natasha, an interior designer from a rich family. She is engaged to Kabir, though she doesn't marry him in the end.
  • Naseeruddin Shah as Salman Habib, an artist in Spain who is Imraan's biological father. He left Imraan and his mother at a young age because he felt that he was not ready to have a child and wanted to travel the world as a painting artist.
  • Ariadna Cabrol as Nuria, a friend of Laila. She lives in Spain and falls in love with Imraan during their stay in Buñol.
  • Deepti Naval as Rahila, Imraan's mother, who raised Imraan with her husband Faizal, who agreed to marry her while she was pregnant after she was abandoned by Salman. She is reluctant to let Imraan meet Salman, as she does not want him to know the truth.

   Production:-

 Development:-

The scripting of the film, tentatively titled as Running with the bulls, was completed in November 2009 after three months of work. Zoya and Kagti incorporated real life observations, and specially wrote the character of Imraan for her brother Farhan Akhtar. Akhtar wrote the dialogues for the film. They used Javed Akhtar's poetry as a voice-over because they felt the poetry adds depth to the character and lends voice to their feelings. The first choice for the location of principal filming was Mexico, but was later changed to Spain since the climax features running with the bulls and Zoya wanted a country that blended history, culture and sports. The release date of the film was rescheduled thrice because the editor, Chandan Arora, fell ill and they had to redo the editing.

   Casting:-

Initially, Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were rumored to play two of the three leads, but they declined because they wished to star together in their own production. Farhan Akhtar, Zoya's brother had worked with her in her debut film Luck By Chance, and was also the dialogue writer of the film, hence Zoya felt that he would know what she exactly wanted from the film. He was the first actor to be cast in the film. Hrithik was chosen for another lead role, since he was a favourite actor of hers. After finalizing the two, she needed someone "who could not just fit in with them visually but also bring something new to the table." She sought Abhay for the role, as he was her friend and had worked with her before in Reema Kagti's Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.
For the role of Laila, Zoya wanted someone with an "accent", who would be willing to do scuba diving, and was a half Indian and half Caucasian girl. A lot of girls were auditioned for it in New York and London. In a party, she met Katrina Kaif, and chose her. Zoya had wanted to work with Kalki ever since seeing her in Dev D and That Girl in Yellow Boots. She felt that Kalki would fit the bill for the character of Natasha, since she had "the sense of comedy, but not over the top." Ariadna was chosen for the role of Nuria, since she was liked for her work in the 2009 Spanish film Eloise. The full cast of the film was confirmed by April 2010.

     Filming:-
The principal shooting of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which began in June 2010, took place in Barcelona, Pamplona, Buñol, Andalucia in Spain, UK, Egypt and Mumbai. Cinematographer Carlos Catalan, who had worked with Zoya in Luck By Chance, wanted all three actors to appear tanned because he "didn't want everything glossed over" and wanted to make the film as realistic as possible.
Katrina's introduction scenes was shot on a nude beach. During the filming, they requested that beach-goers stay out of the frame so that the film would not face objections from the Indian censor board. The La Tomatina festival of Buñol was re-created for the song "Ik Junoon". Almost sixteen tons on tomatoes worth INR1 crore (US$220,000) were flown in from Portugal for the shoot. The filming of the song "Señorita", took place in Alájar, a town in the province of Huelva. The crew warned the locals about the song's volume because the shooting took place at night. In the third day of shooting, the locals came dressed up in costumes, and the mayor of Alájar joined them for the shoot.[14] The climax of the film, which features the Encierro, was shot at Pamplona.[20] The final schedules were filmed at Vashi and Alibag in Mumbai in December 2010.[21]

 Music and soundtrack:-

Composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed the soundtrack for the film, which was their third collaboration with Akhtar after Rock On!! and Karthik Calling Karthik. The lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar. For the vocals of the flamenco song "Señorita", the trio roped in Maria del Mar Fernández, a Spanish flamenco singer, in what was her film singing debut. The song also marked the singing debut of Abhay Deol, who rendered the song along with the other two leads, Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar. They did not inform the actors about the recording. They told them that it was a rehearsal to make them comfortable, but used it after being impressed by its quality.

  Marketing:-

The trailer of the film was released online on 15 May 2011. Excel Entertainment teamed up with Aircel to make promos of the film available on mobile and Internet. The trailer got over 55 million views within 48 hours of its release. Two more promos were released on 27 May, including one for the song Ik Junoon and one for the song Senorita. The music launch and promotion event took place at Nirmal Lifestyle, Mulund, Mumbai. The next week promos of Khaabon Kay Parinday and Dil Dhadakne Do were released. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani visited Facebook India to promote the movie. A press conference promoting the film was held on 1 July at Chandigarh. Two dialogue promos of the movie were released on 3 July. The cast and crew embarked on a road trip from Mumbai to Delhi on 7 July via Surat, Vadodra, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Ajmer and Jaipur that culminated with a concert at Gurgaon. It is believed that British Auto manufacturer Land Rover, which is now owned by Tata Motors, sponsored the Land Rover Discovery driven by the starring cast members during the trip.
The film's marketers released branded promotions with Mountain Dew, Gillette and ING Vysya Bank.
The official game for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, based on the La Tomatina festival, was released by Jump Games on 19 July 2011. The game is available for all leading mobile platforms.

 Release:-

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was released in 1800 screens worldwide on 15 July 2011. A special screening of the film was shown at the residence of Shahrukh Khan on 16 July, the birthday of Katrina Kaif. The event was attended by several celebrities, including Karan Johar, Karishma Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Malaika Arora, Ayan Mukerji, Amrita Arora, and Abhishek Kapoor, besides the film's cast and crew themselves. However, the Shiv Sena criticized the event as it was held three days after the 2011 Mumbai bombings.

 Critical reception:-

Zoya Akhtar has a unique, compelling voice and unlike many of her contemporaries, she actually respects that a cinema audience can be both intelligent and mature.
—Rajeev Masand, CNN IBN
The film mostly garnered positive reviews from critics. Pratim D. Gupta of The Telegraph called Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara "a beautifully scripted journey of catharsis" and praised director Zoya Akhtar for being "fearless in the way she shoots". In his review for Hindustan Times, Mayank Shekhar praised the film as "a game-changer for Hindi films since Dil Chahta Hai, and wrote "What you take home are memorable, amusing moments of three truly adventurous amigos we've all grown up with. And will continue to" giving it 4 stars. Shivesh Kumar of IndiaWeekly awarded the movie 4 stars. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film 3.5/5 stars, calling it a film for "a more evolved, mature and cinema-literate audience that's geared up to embrace and support newer genres of cinema." Nikhat Kazmi of The Times of India gave the film 3.5/5 stars and lauded its lead performances: "If Abhay is the anchor of the group, Farhan's funster role is full of beans and Hrithik's metamorphosis from uptight, money-minded stock broker to carefree vagabond is a class act."
S Chatterjee of NDTV, gave the film 3/5 stars and maintained that the film's philosophy is quite old and praised Zoya Akhtar's direction, stating "Zoya Akhtar, by investing the tale with a delightful lightness of touch and dollops of gentle wit, brings a degree of freshness to bear upon the plot." Shaikh Ayaz of Rediff rated the film 3.5/5 stars and felt that Zoya Akhtar had put together a familiar plot but the film's fresh energy is entertaining. He wrote, "Akhtar's invigorating characters pump in fresh energy into a film that could have been strictly mediocre". Kaveree Bamzai of India Today, too was full of praise for Akhtar's direction and said "By the time I finished watching Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara I was convinced that no one can make a romance as beautifully as a woman", giving the film 4 stars.
Film critic Subhash K Jha rated it 3.5/5 and quoted : "Zoya, God bless her aesthetics, sucks us into the beauty of the moment, not giving us any reason to believe that life's most precious truths are swathed in squalor." Blessy Chettiar of DNA India, noted the music of the film and Farhan Akhtar's acting as highlights of the film: "For all this, the storywriters use heavy doses of symbolism. Deep-sea diving at Costa Brava, sky-diving in Sevilla and the San Fermin bull run in Pamplona, not to forget the Tomatina festival in Bunyol, where Arjun finally lets go. Fears are drowned, let open in the sky and finally at the mercy of raging bulls", he wrote, giving it 3 stars. Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN stated, "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara takes the light-hearted tone of a fun, all-boys road trip through Spain to give you a deep and heartfelt message on why we should live life by seizing the moment and following our hearts". He also praised the performance of the cast, highlighting it as one of the main positives of the film, but points out that the film's length "sucks some fun of out of the ride" and gave a rating of 3.5 stars. On the contrary, Raja Sen of Rediff held that the film "tried too hard to be cool" and gave it 1.5/5 stars.
Ryan Gilbey of The Guardian was broadly positive about the film: "It's still playing to full houses, and you can see why. Slick it may be. But tourist board employees representing the various Spanish cities flattered in the movie are not the only ones who will come out grinning.", though he found the movie "stubbornly un-macho" for a buddy film. The National reviewer Kaleem Aftab, in his 4 star review, noted "Throwing together road trip, romcom and buddy-buddy action in a single picture may sound like an ill-conceived masala mash-up, but like any good dish, the ingredients are blended together with affection to create one of the best feel-good movies of the year."

 Controversy:-

After the release of the film, PETA objected the bull run scene in the film and sought support from fans via their Twitter page to ban the film. PETA spokesperson Poorva Joshipura said "We will now be contacting the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Central Board of Film Certification to take action." The film's producer Ritesh Sidhwani, retorted by saying "We had submitted all the papers to the Animal Welfare Board India that stated that none of the animals were injured or hurt in any way and only then, the censor board cleared the movie. We are only showing the culture of Spain."

Agneepath (Hindi: अग्निपथ; English: Path of Fire) is a 2012 Indian Hindi action thriller film produced by Karan Johar. It is a remake of a 1990 film of the same name and is directed by Johar's former assistant Karan Malhotra. Though publicized as a remake; the film borrows only the basic plot of the original, while making the characters and incidents completely different. The title of the film is taken from a poem of the same name called 'Agneepath' which was penned by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh's father, and is recited at the beginning of the movie and creates a thematic link that continues through the movie, particularly in the climax, both literally and metaphorically.
While Hrithik Roshan plays the lead role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, Sanjay Dutt plays the role of the main antagonist Kancha Cheena, originally played by Amitabh Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa respectively The film stars Priyanka Chopra as the female lead. Other members of the cast include Rishi Kapoor playing a newly introduced negative character, Om Puri and Zarina Wahab among others. The award winning character of Krishnan Iyer M.A played by Mithun Chakraborty in the original has been totally done away with. Shooting of the film mostly took place in Diu and Mumbai's film city. Originally slated for release on 20 January, Agneepath was postponed by a week to 26 January 2012, making it a Republic Day release. Upon release, the film broke the highest opening day collections record and became a critical and commercial success.

  Story:-
The story opens in island Mandwa, near Maharashtra. The highly respected school master of the village, Master Deenanath Chauhan (Chetan Pandit), tries to dissuade the villagers from giving away their lands on lease to Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt), the son of the village head who plans to start a drug mafia. In turn, Kancha falsely accusing Master of raping a student, executes him in full public view by hanging him to a banyan tree. This forces the 12 year old Master's son Vijay and his mother to flee the town and reach Mumbai, where his mom gives birth to a baby girl. In Mumbai the young Vijay sees Kancha and as events pan out, he becomes an accomplice of Kancha's enemy Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor). Vijay gains help and support from Lala to be powerful.
After 15 years, Lala monopolizes in drugs dealings of the city along with running a business of human trafficking. Police officer Gaitonde (Om Puri) manages to debar Kancha from interfering in Mumbai but is unable to collect evidences against Lala or Vijay. Lala's son Mazhar Lala (Rajesh Tandon)is a freak who conflicts his business and personal agendas. Mazhar hates Vijay for his stronghold on Lala's business. He expresses his disgusts towards Vijay to Lala. But Lala convinces him to be an observer of Vijay for a while and accordingly they would finish him later.
Vijay (Hrithik Roshan) holds Kancha's aide and home secretary Borkar (Sachin Khedekar) to ransom, and threatens Shantaram, another aid of Kancha to be a middleman between him and Kancha to conduct trades of cocaine to Mumbai from Mandwa. On one instance, he takes a bullet on himself fired on Mazhar, thereby winning trust of Lala and Mazhar. On the night of his marriage, Mazhar gets the information that the shot was actually fired by Shantaram. He, along with Vijay, leaves to end him but in turn is shot dead by Shantaram in the process. Vijay later shoots Shantaram for he no longer needs him and any evidence of their conspired plan of killing Mazhar. Seeing his son dead, Lala falls sick and is admitted into a hospital. Meanwhile, Vijay takes hold of the position of Lala and is soon contacted by Kancha. He accepts Kancha's offer and goes to Mandwa for a business deal. While in Mandwa, Vijay puts forth his deal to Kancha which is handing over the drug business in Mumbai to Kancha and in return of taking over Mandwa. Though Kancha initially suspects this deal, he later agrees on the condition that the commissioner Gaitonde must be killed.
Back in Mumbai, Lala regains health and knows the truth behind his son's death. He gets hold of Vijay's sister Shiksha (Kanika Tiwari) and calls out for her auction in public. Notified by Kancha, Vijay flees back to Mumbai and kills Lala and his men with the help of eunuchs. After this he gets closer to his family who had exiled him since the day he joined Lala's group after killing the inspector aid of Kancha at the age of 12. In the meantime, Kancha sends a man (the same person who had set Vijay's house on fire in Mandwa 15 years ago and the real rapist of the student) to keep an eye on Vijay. Kancha orders the man to assassinate the commissioner if Vijay is unable to do so. This man while trying to kill the commissioner is murdered by Vijay on the event of Ganesh Visarjan. Vijay's mother Suhasini (Zarina Wahab) identifies this person as a Mandwa native and informs police, identifying herself and Vijay as natives of Mandwa. A mole in the police informs Kancha of this. Vijay marries his love interest Kaali (Priyanka Chopra) who is killed right after their marriage during a shooting spree by Kancha's men.
Raged by anger, Vijay leaves for Mandwa to avenge the death of his father and his wife and on the other hand, Kancha gets hold of Vijay's mother and sister and brings them to Mandwa. During his violent fight with Kancha, Vijay is initially brutally wounded and stabbed, but later garners energy by reciting the poem "Agneepath", which his father had previously taught him to give him strength. Vijay, reciting the poem, kills Kancha by hanging him from the same banyan tree to which his father was hanged. Vijay, while seeing a vision from his childhood and breathing his last in his mother's lap, finally succumbs to his injuries.

   Development:-

In an interview with The Times Of India, Karan Johar explained that he had the intention of remaking the original Agneepath ever since the film released 22 years, because according to him, the commercial failure of the film broke his father's heart. The idea of the remake materialized on the sets of Johar's film My Name Is Khan in which Karan Malhotra was an associate director. Johar told Malhotra his desire to remake the original film and asked him to revisit it again for which he agreed immediately.
According to the art director Sabu Cyril, Mandwa and Diu, the villages where the events of the film take place were chosen because they were completely isolated from the urban areas. A big haveli like structure with tantric paintings on the walls, resembling an old fort built by the Portuguese (who had historically occupied Diu) was created as the den of film's main antagonist Kancha Cheena which was later recreated in Mumbai to shoot the song Chikni Chameli. Vijay's (main protagonist) shelter, a small sack-like thing on the terrace in a chawl was built on some open ground with a hundred houses.

   Casting and filming:-

Agneepath at Panchsheel Theater, Nagpur

Debutant director Karan Malhotra and Karan Johar approached Hrithik Roshan in 2010 instead of the more obvious choice of Abhishek Bachchan as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan. He agreed to the play the role even before he finished hearing the script. Actress Genelia D'Souza was originally considered to play the female lead but the part eventually went to Priyanka Chopra. Sanjay Dutt was signed on to play the character of Kancha, the main antagonist. The award winning character of Krishnan Iyer M.A. originally played by Mithun Chakraborty was totally done away with and rather a completely new negative character of Rauf Lala was introduced and to be played by actor Rishi Kapoor. Other members of the cast include Om Puri & Zarina Wahab. Actress Katrina Kaif was approached to do an item number for the film, which she eventually agreed.

Filming started in January 2011. The entire film was shot in Diu with a few scenes shot in a mill in Mumbai. Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt both undertook a strict exercise regime to gain muscle for the film. On October 18 it was reported that Hrithik Roshan had injured himself during shooting and thus the shooting was delayed by 15 days.

   Marketing:-

The first look of Hrithik Roshan's character was revealed on July 5, 2011. Producer Karan Johar posted a link on Twitter to Agneepaths Facebook page, which contained an image of Hrithik as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan. The Dharma Productions team planted the first theatrical trailer of the film with the prints of Bodyguard, which released on August 29, 2011 and the second theatrical trailer was circulated with the prints of Don 2 which released on December 23, 2011.

  Critical reception:-

The movie opened to positive reviews from critics. According to review aggregator Review Gang, professional critics have given the film a rating of 7 out of 10.

Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film a score of 4.5 out of 5, and said "Agneepath is an uncomplicated story of revenge, is hard-hitting yet entertaining, dwells on strong emotions and aggressive and forceful action, yet is dissimilar from the original. ... It is a fitting tribute to the masterwork." Subhash K.Jha of IANS gave it 4 out of 5 stars, pointing "Every component of the film falls into place, with a resounding thump. Agneepath is brilliant in its brutality. It's a riveting and hectic homage to the spirit of the cinema when revenge reigned supreme. And content was King. This new Agneepath takes us back to the era when there was no computer or cellphones. And communication with the audience was immediate and electrifying." Kaveree Bamzai of India Today rated the movie 4 out of 5, noting "Melodramatic, choir-inducing sentiment, ecstatic.Agneepath is that rare mainstream movie written well." Aniruddha Guha of DNA India gave the film 3.5 out of 5, reviewing "An adaptation rather than a remake, the film assumes a life of its own once the central plot has been established... the film then charts a journey of his own." Piyali Dasgupta of NDTV gave it 3.5 out of 5, stating "Watch this film because this one is unadulterated Bollywood entertainment." Daily Bhaskar gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars, adding "On the whole, Agneepath totally rests on star power which will lure the cine-goers to halls but how far will it impress them remains to be seen." The Times of India too gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, and said, "Try to wipe out the movie's earlier version from your mind. You might find it more enjoyable."
Sukanya Varma of Rediff gave it 3 out of 5, commenting "Agneepath, less of a remake, more of a tribute. The makers of Agneepath should have just called it Dharmapath." Mansha Rastogi of Nowrunning gave the movie 3 out of 5 stars, wrote that "Much against some flaws, Agneepath deserves to be lauded for performances and should be encouraged for a very convincing remake to a cult classic." Mayank Shekhar of Hindustan Times gave the movie 3 out of 5 stars remarking "This is the kind of genuine theatre experience, now getting rare, which remains most precious in the life of a film-goer. Reason can take over later. I had a ball!" Sonia Chopra of Sify gave it 3 out of 5, mentioning "Debut director Karan Malhotra shows great promise in making the film visually arresting and maintaining the consistency of performances. But remaking a cult film means you have big shoes to fill. If you’re a loyalist of the Late Mukul Anand’s Agneepath, you’re likely to have reservations with this one. But if you leave the comparisons aside and are willing to forgive the faults, Agneepath is worth a watch essentially to savor Hrithik’s performance." Rajeev Masand of CNN-IBN gave the Agneepath 3 out of 5, said "It is in the end, an old-fashioned revenge drama treated in that melodramatic, over-the-top style. You're not likely to be bored by the intense action and the solid performances, but prepare to be exhausted by just how long this film plays on."
